Started listening to this as read by Michael Ian Black on the "Obscure" podcast. I realized after listening to the first portion of the book that while Black was entertaining, it would take a very long time to hear the whole novel if it is including his commentary. So I switched to a straight audio-book to finish.

Wow, just wow. Mini-spoiler - ARABELLA IS TERRIBLE! And this story really does go on and on and on. I am sympathetic to Jude. And many things happen to him in his life that he is unable to control. And still, his own twists and turns could have been affected in a positive way many times. He lacked a loving and supportive community which would have helped no matter the setting or time period for the book. Hardy writes vivid but tragic characters. And this one is tragic in the extreme.
