When a five year old is found alone at a gas station in the outskirts of Hart’s Ridge with tattered clothes, Deputy Taylor Gray is called in and is determined to reunite the girl with her missing mother. The girl isn’t speaking and after some digging, Taylor finds out her name is Molly and that her mother has been missing for awhile now. Being assigned to the case, Taylor finds that her own past is what drives her to figure out this mystery. With her sister Lucy also missing - she does this often but is starting to concern her - Taylor’s life revolves around helping other people and she will not stop until Molly’s mysterious appearance is solved.

I had such high hopes for this book as the plot seemed interesting, but it just fell flat for me. The big reveal at the end didn’t really shock me and the whole book was slow and pretty boring. Still an ok read, but I probably won’t continue this series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hart's Ridge is the brand new book by bestselling author Kay Bratt and the first in a new series of novels. Taylor Gray is a strong, independent woman, who grew up in and out of foster care following the sad death of her mother and brother whilst also ensuring her sisters are fed and clothed as best she could. She is a law enforcement officer who gets a call out regarding a small child, Molly, who has wandered into a nearby gas station without an adult. Can Taylor reunite Molly with her mummy?
Fantastic, unputdownable read. Excited to read book two... Lucy in the Sky.

I am a huge fan of Kay Bratt and have loved all of her books. I was so excited when I found out that she was starting a new series—a step outside her usual type of work—and I knew she would totally nail it. She just writes good stories. Period.

I absolutely loved Hart's Ridge and the character of Taylor Gray. She is respectable officer of the law who has to work hard for the respect and loyalty of her fellow officers. She had a tough life growing up and life hasn't gotten any easier for her as the lone female law enforcer in a small mountain community.

When a young girl is found wandering alone in her community, she takes personal responsibility to make sure this child is safe and returned to her family. But when someone from her past enters the investigation, things are suddenly out of her control.

Hart's Ridge is the perfect first book in what I know is going to be a wonderful, exciting series. I can't wait for the next installment. Highly recommend!

Hart’s Ridge has a compelling mystery and a strong female protagonist. I enjoyed the storyline, it is part of a series so the ends are not all wrapped up. The main mystery was solved but lots of questions still remain about Taylor and her family. I especially loved her sidekick-Bernard!! I liked Taylor, but also struggled a bit with the portrayal of the poorly treated female deputy-it seemed overplayed at times. Interested to see where Bratt takes the next installment and what Lucy’s story will reveal. 3.5 stars rounded to four because Bratt’s writing is excellent and draws the reader in.

well written but

I really enjoyed the writing in this book. The characters are well developed and a few plot twists caught me by surprise. I would recommend it
Having said that I am hoping book 2-? answers several questions I am left with at the end of book one. Not cliffhangers per se but loose ends

The main character, Taylor Gray, is a bit of a martyr.  She is working in a “man”s” profession and is continually being bullied.  It seemed that she could have told her boss but didn’t want to say anything for fear she would be fired.  To me that is weakness.  I like strong female characters.  Maybe as the series continues she will become stronger.
