I know he was barely in it but I loved Aehako. The scene where
Liz holds him “captive”
was one of my favorites. Their banter was cute and I loved that he just went along with it

while reading this, besides the staggering consent issues, i couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if one of the girls from the spaceship was gay. (oh wait..... they probably would've forced her to mate to SaVe tHe tRiBe)

I've been slowly working on a deep dive into Ruby Dixon's backlog after reading a Risdaverse book I loved. So, despite really not liking Ice Planet Barbarians, I decided to try again with Barbarian Alien. And while I did not love it, I significantly preferred it to the first in the series.

The issue I keep coming up against in these books is the consent issues. Some of them are communication related, some of them are because of not knowing each other's customs, and some are just due to the nature of the khui and this iteration of fated mates. It's the one thing I keep coming up against that stops me from fully immersing myself into the story.

That being said, once we got past most of the consent issues, this book wasn't bad. It was a bit too much insta-love for this length of book, but it was manageable. There was enough tension that I was still able to enjoy it.

I'm probably gonna jump to another Ruby Dixon series for now. But I do think I will make my way back to read another in the Barbarian series. I just need the cushion of the other 'verses to help me enjoy this in-between.

Reads like a fanfiction but is fun. Sometimes the book seems repetitive. Not much scenery change.

I have to admit that I started reading these books mostly as a joke. I, like many others, saw the series on BookTok and was curious. After reading the first, I did enjoy it very much. I liked this one even more. I typically am not a fan of the writing style in many "spicy" books, per se, a lot of the time the writing tends to be sloppy but I think that Dixon has developed a great mix of funny and yet descriptive writing. A lot of them the literature of the writing is almost non-existent in these types of books but I really appreciate Dixon's style. Her characters are fun, lovable and real and I enjoy that about these books. She is also quite a decent world builder which is also something that can be lost in romantic books. These books are fun and cute and sexy and I thoroughly enjoy them.

MILD SPOILER

I liked it. Was it better than the first book? No I don't think so. Was it worth reading? Definitely. I didn't like Liz so much in the beginning. I viewed her as pretty self-centered but it got better towards the middle of the book. I liked raahosh from the beginning. Yeah he did some fucked up stuff but ig life as a hunter is different.

Now I was surprised to Form a dislike for Georgie. She was just not listening, no one was. Personally if I was Liz I wouldn't have taken the punishment they got. Being forced to hunt for a tribe that separated you from your loved one, hell nah.
I probably would have raised my middlefinger and said fuck yall. Feed yourself.

ANYWAY
Breeding kink ✔️
Possessive mmc ✔️
Strong fmc ✔️
For the smut I would give it like a 3,8/5 🌶 or a generous 4. Depends on your personal taste. This book does not immediately jump into spice. But it has a good and interesting way of building up I believe.
