DNF @ 86% because I’m so fucking tired of a book that’s about a girl in college WORKING AT A SEX CLUB to help pay her bills somehow managing to consistently shame sex workers the entire time. If I have to listen to Oaklyn say “am I a prostitute to you!?” Like 1. that’s a bad thing and 2. Like her entire job isn’t based around having sex for money and letting strangers watch you do it IRL. I can’t. This is just another instance of an author capitalizing on some shit they obviously have a negative bias towards.
The idea was hot tho. And some of the execution was okay in the first half but then it quickly turned into Callum bitching about her working at Voyeur.. which don’t even get my started on how nonsensical and problematic THAT is. What’s crazy is that we even get Callums inner monologue about how he KNOWS this is wrong and how he’s being insecure and unreasonable, yet we STILL have to endure this same cry baby bullshit over and over again. I was honestly annoyed and considering DNF’ing before the whole shaming sex workers and prostitutes part so yeah 1 Star.

Swoon Sister's Book Club Pick - April 2021
I had a good time reading this book especially in the beginning because the concept is amazing. The conflict and misunderstandings went on a little too long for my taste and I started to get bored with it. Overall, a solid read but definitely could have cut back on the angst a little bit.

3.5! I liked this book a lot but all the possessiveness and male alpha stuff annoyed me a lot of times... it'd definitely be a higher rating otherwise but i still liked it very much!
ps. it's extremely taboo so don't read if you can't take it lol

I'm really kicking myself in the butt for not reading this book sooner. I bought it when it was on sale, and it sat in my eReader for months. This was one of the best forbidden romance / age gap / teacher-student romance books I've ever read. At first I thought, "wow this is a fun read." It's definitely unique in its setup, with the main female character working at a voyeuristic club. That was new to me and definitely made the story. When you find out the dynamic and relationship between these two as student and professor, it adds a little bit more of the taboo and riskiness to it.
It was a very very heartfelt story, and details which I won't put in my review, make it so much more than the sexy book it is. Female lead in this book comes across as domineering, successful, and like he has his stuff all put together nicely. Whereas the female lead comes across as a struggling college student.
what surprised me most about this book was how strong the female character was. She helped carry this book so much through the thick and the thin and I loved how her insights and her presence throughout this book really helped guide the storyline. I wish that when I was her age, I was that strong-willed.
Really great book! You definitely need to pick this one up.

Riddled w/ shame (and not the sexy kind!!)
CW: Book contains references to a past sexual assault
This book felt really promising, but ended up being rather disappointing and I skimmed through the end. I’m a big fan of power dynamics and the whole teacher/student thing, but this like lowkey took the fun out of it! Made me sad
It’s a classic “girl is sad&poor so she becomes a sex worker to pay for school” story, but she’s so ashamed she doesn’t even enjoy herself! She fakes the sex, fakes the orgasms, and guiltily accepts her checks. And she and the hero don’t even play up the power dynamic (tragic!!!) instead he doesn’t even let her call him professor. AND he makes her feel guilty for being a sex worker WHEN THATS HOW HE MET HER. But I feel like the biggest issue for me was the way the trauma/sexual assault of the hero was handled- from the beginning it’s clear that being touched in a sexual way is triggering for him, and I assumed that we’d have to unpack that at some point, but all that happens is the hero opens up to the heroine about the past assault, and **the very next time they’re intimate!!!** she’s all”I did some research & ive solved ur trauma” and is able to give him a blowjob......I mean there’s a number of other times he has flashbacks when they’re intimate, but she never encourages him to see a councilor or talks to him about it other than that first time. Disappointing.
