I didn’t realize when I picked this book up that I had already read it until I was pretty well into…which is wild. I for sure didn’t realize I had given it a 5 star rating!! That’s even wilder! I don’t know if I missed something or if my opinions have just changed that dramatically in a year but this actually felt yucky. It somehow felt like grooming even though everyone involved is technically an adult.

Laughing at my previous review now. I didn’t even like the epilogue this time around!! It felt like Oaklyn was really helping him process deep issues and he was doing what? Taking care of her financially? It just hits different at 29 apparently.

Well that was unexpectedly delightful! Totally just thought of this was a throw away read going in, turned my world upside down instead!

THAT EPILOGUE THOUGH!!!

“She sat with me in the dark and loved me through it.” That really got me.

This book was promising and somewhat believable despite the unbelievable plot.

There are gripes, I'm obviously after a certain type of book and this is a little off from what I'm craving. My main annoyance came from all the jealousy this guy had despite the fact he literally met her while doing the job and it's just a lot of double standards for a Tuesday.

And that annoys me. Jealousy is normal but possessive tendencies when there's literally no reason for it is the most off-putting thing possible to me.

Other things I didn't like were the lack of depth for characters and the huge emphasis on the couple and literally nothing else in their lives. Friends/colleagues/family were discussed yet interaction was minimal, I like to see layers to characters.

I will grant it points for having a heavy, and I believe appropriate response to PSTD in a relationship and how that affects couples and individuals. It was really good (I can't say whether or not it is triggering as I haven't experienced this abuse but I imagine some phrases could be difficult - the abuse is not graphically described).

Definitely a sexual book and warning for sexual assault in a character's past.

OMG, not what I thought I was getting into! With a title like Voyeur I hoped for a super sexy read and that is what I got plus so much more. There are some heavy topics that drive the story that really got me. It is a smoking hot story with so much heart. Oaklyn is in her first year of college and when she has to test her comfort zones in order to make tuition payments. Callum needs specific things to deal with his issues and when he sees Oaklyn at the club he instantly knows she is someone that can soothe him. Callum then finds out they share a connection that complicates both of their lives.

I'm not sure how to rate this book or feel about it. I really wasn't enjoying it for the most part but I could see the good things about it. There was some good themes in there, I liked the anxiety and PTSD depictions, I liked (and also didn't like) the conversation around sex work and what that means etc. I liked Oaklyn too and her determination, her drive and her certainty in not quitting on her future. I liked her patience and willingness to forgive. As individuals they seemed believable. enough. But I didn't like them together nor did I like being in this love interests head AT ALL.

The conflicts remained the same throughout the entire book and that got old very fast for me and I kept wondering if this main guy wasn't tired of apologizing. It was a cycle of no communication, him fucking up or being an immature ass and then begging for forgiveness. Not even halfway through this book all I kept thinking was how TOXIC this fucking man was. For a guy his age, his hypocrisy was absolutely enraging to say the least. He owns a membership at this club, stalked her there obsessively even while they were becoming friends, told her there was no shame in what her work was BUT THEN starts manipulate her and SHAME her so blatantly for working there after they got involved. Which mind you, he wouldn't have even noticed her or wanted her HAD IT NOT BEEN for her working there but he surely throws it right back in her face and more or less calls her a whore for working there - more than once he insinuates this mind you. THEN he makes her feel bad FOR HIM not being able to handle her working at this sex club where he used to stalk her. I just....grow the fuck up and go to therapy. You didn't consider any of that shit when you started to deal with her? He acted like he didn't know what her job was or why she was there or what the club stood for. Hated it. Hated him.

Another thing I DID NOT like whatsoever is how this man used this woman as an escape, as his therapy, his little fix to make him feel better about his issues for almost the entire book. Even in certain instances where they should have been talking or communicating he apologized through sexual acts that made him feel better and I just didn't like that. Like go seek therapy dude and stop using this girl as an escape goat only to keep fucking her over you know what I mean? And when he did I was already sick of him and over it and it was brushed over anyway. I just wasn't a fan. And he was the grownup which just made it worse being in his head and reading his perspective and thinking bruh all you have to do is TALK to this girl. I just wasn't buying their attraction to each other it seemed so insta lovey instant connection type shit on an emotional level I just wasn't feeling from either of them. The way their feelings about each other were written was just so...cheesy.

By the last third I hated this book. The conflict was unnecessary and avoidable and just seemed like it was there for the sole fact of being there and causing drama. The ending and resolution felt so rushed and underdeveloped that I literally saw no point in it being there, it followed the exact same formula as the rest of the book which just made it worse. The voyeur aspect took a backseat way too quickly I had expected just a bit more from that side of things but by the second act it was just in the backdrop we barely got anything from there then on out. It just wasn't my jam which sucked because I loved the beginning of the book and their little banter and friendship convos but after that it just kept losing me. Really wanted to love this but alas. I do completely see why people would love this book 100%

:sighs: Ok I am going to try my best to articulate my feelings on this book.

I am obsessed! I love Cal and Oaklyn so much that it is not even funny!💖😍 When I was supposed to be working I was daydreaming of these 2! I could not get them out of my mind. I would count down the minutes until I could go read about them some more. When I was not reading about them I was going over what I just read and trying to speculate what would happen next!
I am not going to lie.... they broke my heart a little 💔 (or more like a lot!!!😭) With a name like Voyeur, you expect it to be hot (🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and it is SOOOOOOOOO HOT!!!!!), but I was not expecting they story to get so deep! Oaklyn really is the most patient, understanding and compassionate woman, and Cal was really fortunate to have met her. The issues that he has to deal with are very deep rooted and he had been working on them (or so he thought) for a very long time. It seems all you really need is the love of a great woman!
I absolutely LOVED this book! It really did have ALL THE FEELS for me! My attachment to these characters levels on obsession levels. If they were real people I would probably stalk them! I think everyone needs to read this book. It is not JUST a hot read! It gets very serious at times. The love is so strong. (I feel like I am rambling!) So in conclusion...... GET THIS BOOK!!!!
