Slow, boring. Besides my association with teachers and MI, the first 90 min did not interest me enough to keep going.

What a joyful surprise. Need to check out this author's other works.

A delightful cast of characters each with their own quirks… a plot that is both confusing, yet sentimental… a resolution that’ll put a smile on your face. I maybe want to visit Northern Michigan now.

Oh my gosh, what a delight of a novel! Delight, heartbreak, joy, tears, feels...this book has it all. And can I mention how HILARIOUS Katherine Heiny's writing is. Just hysterical. A couple of warnings though. This is a character driven book, not a plot driven book. This story meanders a lot and there were a couple of times where I almost gave up. Definitely read this one when you are in a patient mood, and a place where you want to savor the story. Stick with it, because IMHO the payoff is worth it! This novel reminded me a lot of Sorrow and Bliss, but with many more laughs. Seriously, I cannot stress to you enough how brilliantly funny this book was. Not only that, but Heiny is insanely poignant and writes about mundane, everyday life in a way that will relate to and captivate any reader.

This was a sweet and touching read. I kept waiting for the “point” or climax of the story, but this never came. It spanned ~15 (?) years and was a bittersweet/touching snapshot of life. I liked it!
