A book about life. About everything and nothing. This was an easy, funny and thought-provoking look into the life of Jane- a young woman who has just moved to a small town in Michigan. I liked it because I thought it demonstrated how an ordinary life is beautiful.
medium-paced
A little hard to get into - the main character, Jane, is a little too self-sacrificing and everyone else is a little too heartless. Jane's life is unfair, frustrating, and humiliating, and even though it is described in a humorous way it was a little too much of a bummer to be enjoyable. I finished it and enjoyed some of the lines, but it was a tense read for me.

It wasn’t completely terrible, but it wasn’t great and it certainly wasn’t joyful and funny, as the reviews I read claimed. It started out okay but about a third of the way in, I realized I just don’t like Jane. And the depiction of her as a teacher had so many inaccuracies. For instance, sleeping during class and drinking on a field trip…and not getting fired???

Between 3 and 4 stars. I love stories of building a found community, and this book does that. Other reviewers have called it tender and quirky. Yes, that fits. There's not much plot, and there's a lot of feel-good filler. It's a character-driven story in which most of the characters aren't deeply developed. If you're looking for something light, go for it!
