I am not up on popular fiction, so I was pleasantly surprised by some of the plot twists, especially towards the end. It's not often that I feel a sense of connection (and appreciation for exponential growth) with the major villain, but I wonder why fiction criminals and psychopaths always develop these Batman and Robin type schemes that taunt the authorities? Why not commit your crime/caper and be done with it?

What a load of rubbish!!!! Flattest ending I have ever read in a book.

Great concept, quick pace and the intricate description of a hundred historical sites cannot elevate Brown's writing above clunky cliches. Langdon makes a decent, if dull, hero and the symbolism he decodes is fascinating. Too bad all that is buried under the worst writing this side of Twilight.

Dan Brown is, in my experience, the definition of "old man who hates young people" and "male author who has never interacted with a human woman"

In my review for The Lost Symbol I compared the Langdon novels to National Treasure and then in THIS novel, Langdon actually says he's going to buy a replica of the artwork he needs to examine from the museum gift shop, which is literally a beat-for-beat plot point from that movie that had me yelling "use cash, not a credit card, Robert!" He steals a different valuable artifact to help solve a mystery that will prevent a madman from going all Thanos on the earth, iykyk.

Anyway. I double majored in Interior Design and Art History, so this gave me Euro-FOMO, and also, I'm gonna go steal the Declaration of Independence. And... something something, Dante's Inferno.
