Fantastic read

This is my second book by Brynne Weaver, and my first by Trisha Wolfe. I’m definitely a fan of both now. Love Kyrie and Jack. The tension between them was really great. But beyond the smut and heat, were these great dives into the human psyche. It was a wild ride peeling back both of their many layers. I loved the humor as well. Kyrie and Jack were made for each other.

Holy shit these people are twisted. Like he breeds blue flowers because they match her eye color and she works at the university body farm because he works there!? Talk about mutual stalking.

Two serial killers on the same turf, enter thunder dome rules, blackmail, and sex? Kyrie and Jack learn that they have a single fateful night years ago that tied their stories together and the two realizes that they created the monsters they’ve become. And not only is Jack willing to kill for Kyrie, he’s willing to die, more specifically he’s okay if she’s the one who kills him.

A spicy and fast paced dark romance that kept me on the edge of my seat.

I loved Butcher & Blackbird, so I had high hopes for this book. But it just didn’t live up to them. It suffered from a couple of the things that annoyed me about B & B (namely it could’ve really used another round of edits - words were mixed up, like complement when compliment was what was meant) and a lot of its own - I just really had trouble connecting with the characters. I was tempted to DNF around the halfway mark but held on and finished it. The ending was nice, but there just wasn’t much drawing me in, making me want to flip pages.

After reading the description and knowing Trisha Wolfe is one of my favorites authors (i'm new to Brynne Weaver but will definitely be reading more from her now) I knew I had to read this and was so grateful to get an ARC. Basically, if you like dark romance you will love this book. It is depraved and dark in the best ways. I love that both the FMC and MMC are professors- one a forensic anthropologist and the other a wildlife biologist- and serial killers. It is definitely a plot driven book and honestly took me awhile to get through the plot building of the first 25% but after that I did not put this book down. I love the psychological aspect of the writing and you could tell the authors did their research.
There is spice involved and being a smut connoisseur i've basically read it all- but this book had some...situations I have yet to read. The main characters were definitely dark but their backstory was honestly heartbreaking - but yet there were some swoony moments. For example, he breeds a type of flower for years to match her exact eye color. COME ON

Definitely check your trigger warnings but if you're into the debauchery GIVE THIS A READ.
