I love DiCamillo, but I don't know, this one just doesn't do it for me.

The ending (and indeed most of the book) was a great big warm gooey one of your favorite cookie. Yum. Lovely narration by Graeme Malcolm.

I've heard great things about this book for years, but this was my first time to read it. It was told in a very unique, creative way--even switching from third person to second person narrative throughout. While the storytelling was fantastic, the book was a bit too dark for my kids (10, 7, 5) right now (I was pre-reading it in preparation for our school year). I think we will wait a couple of years so they can enjoy it more fully. It's definitely a book I'll share with them, though. Also, the audiobook narrator is fantastic!
Cute children’s novel. Fun & adventurous. It has an interest plot and fun characters.
However, it should be noted that this is a children’s book and as a result it is very cliche and simplistic — as a children’s book should be.
It follows a classic hero’s journey arch and the villains are clearly villains (with the slight comedic stupidity that all villains have in children’s stories). There is good comedic relief and some great stupidary in the characters to stimulate some humor.
It is a fun novel.
I wished the characters weren’t so black and white; I wish there was a redemption arch, but I understand considering the target audience why there wasn’t. I wish it was more complex, but with the target audience I understand why there wouldn’t be complexity.
Recommend for younger readers.

Not a great book in my opinion, didn't love the plot, characters kind of dry, and hard to follow.
