Another kids book that I picked up at the Little Free Library- where it will go right back tomorrow. It is a very endearing story, and I actually like the was the author addresses the reader throughout the story. The story was simple, but not so simple that it was predictable. I actually did wonder how these girls were going to escape the rats! It really wasnt until we got to the point in the story that I did realize how ridiculous that was. It was super enjoyable, however.

What could be better than a quest to rescue the one you love, a bowl of soup, and this book!!

Another great one from Kate DiCamillo. I've always wanted to read this book because I thought it was a wonderful idea for a kids story. I was not disappointed. The messages were worked into the tale perfectly, the action was steady, and Despereaux was a sweet, lovable character. This is a book I will definitely read to my nephews.

this is my favorite book. i tend to re-read it when i need something to cheer me up, and this is one of two favorite books of mine that never fails to make me feel the same things i felt when i read it for the first time. sometimes you re-read favorites and realize you've outgrown them, or they just don't serve the same purpose, but this is never the case with this little mouse, and so much hope, empathy, and love in one story. kate dicamillo has a magical way of writing all of her stories, but i think this one is her best.

This was my favorite book as a child-- I wept throughout. One of the first books that really made me feel this sort of cathartic radical empathetic joyful cry that you get at the end of a good and moving book.

It broke my heart but in the best way. I haven't read it in years, but I will always remember how it made me feel.
