I am currently speechless, reliving the book over and over in my mind to try and write a review. Nicholas Sparks, you've done it again. I am honestly never disappointed when reading a book of yours. You put so much background into it, thought, romance, and you give it everything you can. I was touched whole-heartedly by this book. It was beyond beautiful.
I firstly read this book because the movie was coming out very soon. I didn't want to compare and contrast of i watched the movie first.
Secondly, I didn't think I would enjoy this due to half of the story taking place in the 1940s, but I was wrong.
Two couples and their stories are connected by sacrifice and the extraordinary journeys they have traveled.
Half of the story is about Sophia Danko and Luke Collins, two people who are completely different. They come from such different worlds: Sophia is a city girl, while Luke is a country boy. Somehow, their worlds collide and everything instantly seems to change for them.
Sophia Danko is in her final year of college and not long got out of a bad and unhealthy relationship. The last thing she wanted was to get in another one. She had been talked into coming to a rodeo to get her mind off of him, considering he's been stalking her very creepily. That's how she meets him.
Luke Collins, oh where to begin. Let me first confess that he stole my heart not long after he was introduced. He has a heart, and I feel like he has been lonely for some time now, looking for someone to fill that void. He rides Bulls for a living, and of course it's very dangerous.he used to ride for the enjoyment and thrill, but it's now so he can help his mother out.
Ira Levinson was a Jewish boy working for his parents when he came upon the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. Her name was Ruth, and she soon would be his wife and the love of his life. It starts out that he's in a car accident, and he's seeing memories of his wife, recalling their life together. The life after she had passed. He was around ninety-something years old and he knew his time was short. He couldn't give up, not yet.
The last two chapters, I am seriously touched. I can't even begin to explain how beautiful that was. It goes to show that there are some beautiful hearted men (at least in this book: Ira and Luke.)
With all of that being said, I can't wait to watch the movie and experience this lovely story all over again (with some noticeable changes I see from the trailers).

I have yet to find a Sparks book I didn't like. This was no exception. I do however wish the ending didn't feel so abrupt. I don't know how else I would have liked to read it though. Another amazing love story by Sparks...and thankfully it wasn't nearly as sad as his usual ones are. It did make me slightly sad but like I said...no where near as bad as any of the others.
Soppy romance that I only read because it was on the NY bestsellers of 2014. Wasn't really my cup of tea and I found it to be an unlikely storyline.

Great book. Nicholas Sparks always adds a little something to his romance stories to make them more captivating and less cheesy than other romance novels. I was trying to figure out how Ira+Ruth and Luke+Sophia were going to come together the whole time! I sorta predicted it, but not 100%. Overall 4.5 stars!
Reading this book was pretty much like a ride that I wish would never end. It was seamless and hauntingly beautiful. Sparks' prose and romance never cease to enthrall me, as a loyal fan of his works.
Perhaps it is the way two love stories were entwined, or the way I had a glimpse of what a cowboy/professional bull rider's life in a ranch is really like, but this book mesmerises me. I liked how Sparks continues to use just the right words and images to tug at a reader's heartstrings.
This book made me smile, ache, and tear a little bit with the sheer sweet romance of it all. It is an undeniably good book; one of, if not Sparks' best. I particularly liked how Luke's belief and understanding in love made everything work out well for him. Come to think of it, at the end of the day, if you don't believe in love, then what else would you believe in?
