I wanted to DNF this book right after the first chapter. I made it to page 211 before I felt that I was justified enough in my suffering to put it down. I have read every...single...novel by Mr. Sparks, and this was the worst yet.

This link summarizes the book 1000% times better than the actual book itself. It actually makes the book sound interesting. There is probably a full chapter full of interesting in the whole book, and the rest of the pages were boring and mundane.
The characters were all completely flat and trope-y for me. I never cared about them, and felt the desperation of trying to make another 'The Notebook'. Newsflash! You cannot try to replicate the true love and enjoyable read that book provided.
This story is completely plot-driven and bored the hell out of me. Ira's chapters were like pulling teeth. I would skim them completely to get the jist and then move on to Luke and Sophia's chapters. Even them, Luke and Sophia were cardboard cutouts. I liked the cowboy theme, but if you're looking for a better love story, read Ree Drummond (Food Network's 'The Pioneer Woman')'s memoir on meeting and marrying her real-life cowboy husband.

Great reminder of why falling in love is the greatest, and yet the scariest thing on earth.
I'm prone to a book about cowboys, considering I married one. The way Sparks weaved the 2 stories in and out of one another, making it feel as if the story of Luke and Sophia shadowed the story of Ira and Ruth made it that more interesting.
The story started out slow for me, and was a little sappy at times, but I have read other books by Sparks, and I have come to expect this. In fact, when I need a good dose of falling in love and men being overly romantic while the women are smart and strong willed, I pick up a Nicholas Sparks novel, and remind myself that making a relationship work and stand the test of time can be dirdicult, but when it's with the one person, the other half, it's worth it to get out of bed everyday.

While it was a good story I do not think it lived up to Nicholas Spark potential.
I’m not someone who takes joy in disliking things. But man I really did not like this book. The story moved too fast without enough depth of detail - too many long summarizing passages of telling rather than showing the development of story and character and most importantly the relationship central to the story. To me the romance felt rushed and unearned. I also wasn’t satisfied by the payoff of the subplot of Ira. Overall, not one I’d recommend.

It’s fine and Sparks seems to get me every time. Residual feels from high school.
