The Longest Ride

Nicholas Sparks

I would give this two and a half stars. It was my first Nicholas Sparks novel and I was expecting great things since I had already seen most of the movies based on his books (including this one - I know, a cardinal reader sin: always read the book first!).
And I am also able to boast that the author and I live in the same state. ;)
I don't know what exactly caused me not to enjoy this book very much but I'm willing to give Sparks another try, hopefully the next of his books I choose to read will grip me more.
emotional hopeful medium-paced

Let me start off by saying, I love Nicholas Sparks. I think all of his books are well written and I always enjoy the character development he does in each story. I loved Luke in this story. I liked Sophia for the most part. What I didn't care for was the absolute predictability of the book. Yes, many of the Sparks books we know and love get a little predictable to me, but this one... I basically knew how the story would play out from the beginning, at least how Ira & Sophia/Luke would be. I love the mystery of a new book, I like it having twists and turns, and a way to keep me on my toes as I read. I felt like this novel was lacking in that department. I'm glad I read the book, and I did enjoy it. It's an easy read and a sweet love story, as are most other Sparks books. I just wish there would've been something...more.

Differs a lot from the movie, but still an enjoyable read. Didn't really like the music that separated Ira's story from Sophia/Luke's...too melancholy. Sometimes hard to differentiate Sophia and Luke's voices.

This wasn't my favorite Nicholas Sparks book. It took me a while to get through it. It was a little predictable. I don't want to be too negative because it was an OK book but I've liked other Sparks books a lot better.

I really enjoyed this book. I felt like it was probably a little too long, but overall was pretty intrigued with the story. Glad I finally read it!
