A haunting story of genocide, abuse and war, Farida shows remarkable courage in sharing her story. She does not celebrate her own strength which is obvious to the reader, but humbly and factually retells the horrors she was subjected to.
The Yazidi people first came to my attention through the fictional Elia Shafak book There Are Rivers in the Sky, but to read the non-fiction, true account of a survivor is even more powerful. Thank you for sharing your experience.

O poveste impresionanta.

I never left a review for a book here, i usually just rate it so i can remember books that i read but this book...
Never have i ever felt this so much emotions that i had to write it down. I'm feeling angry, sad, afraid, disappointment and so much more. This girl and so many others went through something that should never have happened to them. I'm glad i read this, because i will never forget it, it will always stay in my mind. If you want to read it be prepared to feel the same way.

Honestly, this real-life heroine is hard to even believe. She's so proactive in every situation, constantly looking for ways to escape and looking for ways not to give in. She doesn't seem like she could be a real person. But her story is clearly true, tragic, and important. Highly recommended.
A heartbreaking and evoking story that I must give 5 ⭐️.
The entire story was so gutting, to hear the story of the yazidis and a real life account of what happened. My heart goes out to these people and all the oppressed
