This gave me the same feeling as House of Salt and Sorrow and even Caraval. I was looking for a book like this for ages so I'm glad I came across this one.
The story isn't too complicated. The main character can't die and gets involved with Death himself. I love personifications of Death, and I loved the way it was done here. He was well fleshed out and the dynamic between him and the MC was lovely.
It's a bit of a murder mystery, and the twist in the end was unexpected.
As lovely as the book was, I don't feel like the set up for a second book was necessary. Write a good story and leave it alone.

Such a good book! The plot is amazing and the characters so different and well written. And oh god the plot twists! So many well written plot twists I didn't see coming! Absolutely loved this book and so excited to read it again and see all the clues and hints I missed hidden throughout.

this was way darker than i expected but in a beautifully gothic way. and it is YA but i also would say this is very much a dark romance and would warn that there is an uncomfortable age gap between the MC and the LI.
it has really rich world building that by the end leaves you desperate for more, and i cannot wait to continue this story (especially with that reveal at the end!)
the first half of the book is slow and depressing, but i've found that's pretty common for romantic gothic tales, so if you're the kind of person that can wait for the build, you will like this book.
