6/5 stars. LOOOOVED this book.
I really didn’t want to like this book, as I found the main male character a bit rude at times. I also was a bit uncomfortable with the premise—to have a love story come from a kidnapping feels a bit Stockholm Syndrome-y to me. I’m still a little uncertain if the kidnapping part should have actually led to love since that’s a pretty crappy power dynamic…
…but honestly, I loved their love story. Poppy and Andrew are both so sarcastic and funny and quick-witted. I was so fully immersed in the story like I haven’t been with a book in quite a while. I laughed out loud several times, cringed with the awkward moments, teared up with the discussions of grief, heart pounded with some of the thrilling parts (no spoilers). This was a different kind of Bridgerton book than normal—more adventure, less sex. And I loved nearly every second of it.
Even though the premise was a little icky, the author did a great job trying to discuss the characters’ mixed feelings about what happened and how to move forward from it. With the lovely little twist toward the end, I pretty much understood how the original situation that brought them together was internally resolved for both characters (whether or not I agree with the conclusion is irrelevant to me, as it is, after all, a cutesy love story, not a realistic one).
I borrowed this book from my cousin, but I loved it so much that I’m buying it now. I must have it so I can read it again and again and again. ‘Twas a lovely, witty, adventurous love story.
Julia Quinn’s books just keep getting better and better.

I definitely have enjoyed these prequels much more than the Bridgerton series itself (although I’m not quite done with those). I really enjoy the characters much more as it feels the women are so much more empowered (although still ga-ga over the men in ways that sometimes seem just silly). Looking forward to finishing out the prequels to see if this luck continues!
Although the start of the book annoyed me (why Andrew, why??), I got sucked in to Poppy and Andrew's story and wanted to know what happened next. The big reveal happened later than anticipated but it was done really well. The characters were well written and it was nice to see Billie and George again! Although this was not one of my favorite prequels, I loved it overall!
3.5 rounded to 4.
Each book has started a bit slow in this series. This one started out a bit faster than stalled until the last quarter. I adored the last quarter! Poppy and Andrew were great and always love when the Bridgerton crew get together.
Also billy ❤️
