Seems like a very specific trope but I think I rather enjoy captive on a ship romance stories :)
I just loved this story. After what I felt like was a fail for Julia Quinn's previous book in the Rokesby series, she has come back with a truly delightful historical that hit all the right notes for me. I loved the hero and heroine in this story. Poppy is intelligent and adventurous, the perfect heroine to find herself kidnapped and stowed away on a privateer's ship, heading for foreign lands. Andrew is also intelligent and valiant and a gentleman, the perfect hero to treat a prisoner on his ship with relative kindness and honor. Stories that I have read in the past involving damsels in distress who have been taken captive by a strong (and maybe dangerous) man tend to go in a certain Stockholm syndrome sort of direction, but this story does not. Andrew has taken Poppy captive, but he was forced into the situation and does his best to make her situation a safe one, working to ensure that Poppy has the best chance to return home with her honor and reputation intact. I loved the pacing of the romance in this book. Poppy and Andrew spend lots of time TALKING to each other, learning exactly who they are. This is a story of two MINDS coming together. It was a nice change from a genre that can sometimes get hung up on physical attractions over intellectual/spirtual attraction. In fact, as far as steam goes, this is really light on steam, a fact that is perfect considering the situation that throws these two together.
This story has more danger and drama than I am used to in a Julia Quinn romance, but I thought it was done really well. I loved the ending of the book. The story was lovely, but the characters are what made this really work. Poppy and Andrew were great. This is the first historical I've read in awhile that made me want to go back and reread some favorite scenes once I finished it. I loved it. Five stars!

Another book to delve into the world of 'Bridgerton'. The main highlight for me of this book was the main characters, particularly Poppy. Enjoyable read!

I liked both characters and loved the story. It was adventurous and heartwarming. So far my favorite Bridgerton romance, delightful.
