3.5

Utterly preposterous but a good read anyway

Poppy is grabbed, when she finds a smuggler's cave. Captain Andrew Rokesby is know as a reckless privateer, but also quietly transports things for the British government. He is leaving for an important trip for Portugal when he finds a woman tied up in his cabin.

Maybe more of a 3.5, but it was a nice reading escape so I rounded up.

3.5/5 Stars

This book was a fun read once I got into it, but I think it took a little too long for that to happen. The beginning dragged for me. Thankfully, it picked up in pace towards the end.

I will say- I adored the hero. So far, I think Andrew's my favorite hero of the Rokesby series (but I had a feeling I would think that because I loved him since he was first introduced in Because of Miss Bridgerton). Poppy was also a good character but she isn't that memorable. And their romance was... what you'd expect. Nothing special about it, but their banter was really fun to read.

Overall, this book is a good read if you love the Bridgertons. Otherwise, it's just okay.

My favorite of the prequel series.

I adored the banter between Poppy & Andrew. The tension between them was very charming and funny. They were both generally likable characters, and I really liked the fact that they didn't jump right into bed together.

My ONLY complaint so far with this reboot of the Bridgertons is that I don't recall whose parents are whose. I would like to know the names of Poppy's parents. I hope in future books that J.Quinn will give us a family tree included in the book.

So much fun reading about the previous generation, only tangentially referenced in the original series

I love Poppy's curiosity and propensity to vocalize every thought. I could really relate to it! Reading about the Captain falling in love with her for those qualities made me feeling charming and delightful myself - LOL!

Most of the story takes place on a boat. Unrealistically, although key moments involve a sudden motion of the boat, the background motion is barely described, and Poppy doesn't even need 5 minutes to adjust to it.

When the action speeds up, it was notable that Poppy's unique qualities had NO use - except that she could remember one code phrase even under stress.

I laughed out loud at parts, and I do like to read stories that take place on boats.

Starts with a kidnapping on some rather thin pretext and excuses. Otherwise--fun, snappy exchanges, predictable plot, and a HEA.
adventurous funny slow-paced

I definitely have a soft spot for pirate romance and this one was no exception. Quinn has delivered again making this one of my favourites i have read of hers.
