This was delightful. I got it as a "blind Date" from the ripped bodice, and it was very nice. The interaction between the leads was a+ for the most part.
I don’t love pirate or ship tropes, but for all the kidnapping, pirates and high-seas adventures I found this story pretty slow. It was a lot of the H/h talking, with some adventure and a very breezed over resolution to get to the HEA, though admittedly not how you would expect from the rest of the story. Not a bad story, and different than many other regencies, but not my favorite book.
Review of the audio book, read by Rosalyn Landor.
Well, Poppy & Andrew are just cute as buttons aren’t they? I loved their slow burn romance. And how they were both determined to find each other toward the end!

Sweet, light hearted romances. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Poppy is kidnapped by roguish and impossibly handsome captain Andrew. There’s more to him than meets the eye and their chemistry is nearly instant and off the chart.
It has forced proximity, down pat.

Really enjoyed the adventurous feels of this one, but I felt like it could have either leaned more camp or into how angsty and dangerous the situation was, and either would have tipped this into 5 star territory. Exploring historical Lisbon was a treat, and the tension leading up to the surprise reunion at the end was top notch. Definitely the best of this series so far.
Love, love, love, love, love! I think Julia Quinn can write no wrong. This book was just plain fun!
Oh, there's nothing quite like a pirate that's also a gentleman. The banter in this book was hilarious. I loved the dyamics between the hero and the heroine.
To be fair, the Rokesbys series hasn't been my favourite Quinn series, what I can count on are ridiculous set up, fun banter and cute characters. That said, this one made me a touch uncomfortable peppered with shades of Stockholm Syndrome.
Poppy Bridgerton is bored, she is a lovely young lady visiting her friend on the coast, and having managed to slip away for a walk unknowingly discovers a smugglers cave - and gets kidnapped and taken onto a Pirate ship. This being a Quinn series, of course there's a Rokesby as captain and our fun begins there.
Despite the fact that the majority of our romance seems to happen from the confines of a cabin?! There are genuinely sweet notes, I would have preferred for our ship portion to be cut at least in half and would have liked a bit more family time at end.

Bridgerton books always feel like drinking a warm mug of tea under a blanket. The romance sweeps me away every time - and this time, there was even pirates and espionage and stars. What more could I ask for in my Sunday morning read?
