argh matey someone needs to take these books away from me

I’m actually surprised at how much I’ve been enjoying the Bridgerton prequel novels, this one included. I feel like the storylines obviously play into their tropes, but still feel refreshing. I liked The Other Miss Bridgerton because I found it to be a light read and easily digestible.

I liked both Poppy and Andrew (I mean, I’ve like Andrew since Billie’s story) and felt like it was enough of a slow burn and that they were compatible enough that it made sense.

I do wish there were a few more pages about their return back to England, but I guess the author felt it wasn’t pertinent to the storyline. It is a short read — only 291 pages in the hardcover version, but I feel satisfied by what I got out of it.

The Bridgerton books are certainly not for everyone. But for me, Julia Quinn is the gift that just keeps giving.

This was cute, in spite of the kidnapping beginning. I liked the map puzzle stuff quite a bit and of course, stargazing is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to dates. Poppy is wonderful. I found Andrew to be kind of ... scattered. Like they couldn't settle on a characterization of him, or he wasn't sure who he was supposed to be.

This is the pattern with most Andrews in my life.

SpoilerNot a huge fan of this novel's premise: kidnapped by pirates after accidently exploring a smuggler's cove, have to travel to Portugal, fall in love with the ship captain who turns out to be an agent of the crown and family friend, and escape murderous gangs on the docks of Lisbon. Seemed too much like a telenovela.

But JQ created an amazing banter between Poppy and Andrew, sexual tension, and a perfect ending!
