It is true that there are MANY biographies of Amelia Earhart on the shelves. Aside from Candace Fleming's typical excellent research and organization, this book stands out because it intersperses biographical information with sections that detail what happened on the day of Amelia's disappearance. This will fascinate kids interested in Amelia Earhart and makes an appealing addition to the canon. Don't miss it.

This was fantastic! I can't stand an unsolved mystery but loved the layout and execution of this book. While history can be dry for young people I think most would enjoy this book whether they read it from cover to cover or just perused it.

This informative and inspiring look into the life of Amelia Earhart is a must-read for lovers of history, aviation, and the lives of people who have changed America. Filled with breathtaking images, facts, and quotes, the reader begins to feel connected to Amelia and those she was closest too. Amelia comes alive as her story is unfolded, from her early childhood to her final flight.

At first, I was not that interested with this book, but as I delved deeper into the life of Amelia Earhart, the legend, I began to see the beauty of the photographs and words within these pages. After reading this book, I feel as though I know Amelia, as if she was a friend. By the last few pages, even though I knew what was coming, I was pulling for the searchers to find her and the navigator. Overall, I feel that I learned a lot about an amazing woman and the early developments made in aviation.

I love biographies for young people - the primary sources and compact narrative. Problem is that you sacrifice the juicy parts! This book was kinda boring.

The suspense builds as the story alternates between telling the story of Earhart’s life and her disappearance over the Pacific Ocean. Find out how Earhart became a pilot, how she cultivated her public image, and how radio operators around the world tried to track her down after her plane went missing in this page-turner of a biography.

The format is key for the suspence, but the photographs help create a sense of familiarity and intimacy with this legend. Seeing her flaws and fibs brought to light helps the reader to see her as a real person, and Fleming's text is perfectly suited to the story and her audience.

2 1/2 probably, but I'm rounding down because I think Fleming has done better and now I kinda dislike Amelia Earhart.

Excellent look at the life, legend and achievements of Amelia Earhart. I liked how it went back and forth between the story of her life and the suspenseful search for her plane on the day it went missing. Great tension-builder, plus the book was full of little details I'd never known before, like how many ham radio operators may have heard her last messages! Scary. Highly recommended.

Reading Level: Grades 3-5

Amelia Earhart was one of the most formidable female pilots of her time, spurring her decision to be the first woman to fly around the world - alone. But a few hours into her flight, Amelia's plane lost radio contact with the ground and became lost. She was never found. Fleming's new biography of Earhart is great for younger readers interested in both the story and the time period.
