3.5 - liked it

This book follows werewolf and alpha porn star, Richard Knotz. Richard is known for doing temporary bonds with his co-stars for three months, getting a bunch of knotting scenes with them, and then breaking it off, as per the contract. As unemotional and distanced as he tries to keep himself, his temporary mates always want to keep the bond up and are devastated when they don't.

His next bonding contract, though, is different. It's with a human, for one, but it's the first time he's ever bonded with someone with a compatible scent. And suddenly, he finds himself acting like he would with an actual mate. He can't help it, even as he knows the relationship has an end date.

The human, Hunter Savage, doesn't know all that much about the supernatural world, but he does know a fair amount about Richard and how he treats his coworkers. And he knows that how he's being treated us out of the ordinary. He doesn't feel as much as Richard, but he does feel attracted to him, and the bond begins working its magic on him as well.

I liked this book. I really liked the first sex scene (🥵), and I liked the relationship between Richard and Hunter. I wish the hunting scene was significantly more hunt-y, and that there was more buildup there instead of the semi-realistic filming side scenes for a porn film.

I especially liked that there was no grand misunderstanding or issue in the end. You know as the reader that the issue is that the contract is only supposed to last for three months. Usually in books like this, it will happen that the three month deadline happens, and the MCs haven't communicated that they liked each other, so then they think the other doesn't like them. Then they act cool, consequently their partner thinks the same about them, they break the bond, they're heartbroken, and then eventually they get back together when they realize their feelings are mutual.

Nothing's wrong with that plotline, but it is very predictable and kind of manufactured conflict. It was refreshing that that's not how it went down in this book; instead, they film their final scene, express their feelings for each other, and that's that. *Chef's kiss*

Overall, I enjoyed this book. Would recommend if you like MM romances, books where the MCs are porn stars, mates, and knots.

I’m genuinely shocked by how much I ended up enjoying this… Richard was such a dick the first few chapters that I didn’t believe I’d end up believing in a romance with him, but hoo boy was I wrong. That seventh scene was *swoony*

My kink is:

"When an MC says something they enjoy doing or eating etc, just as a passing comment in conversation, and the OTHER MC'S REMEMBERS THAT EXACT THING AND THEN DOES SOMETHING RELATING TO THAT THING THEY ENJOY"
