This was my very first ARC, thank you to the publishers!
I rounded up, and would give this book 3.5 stars because I could not put it down. It consumed me.
Would I hug this book? No, instead I’d put my arm around it, and tell it “there’s nothing wrong with going to therapy”. Im pretty sure this book is the book Colleen Hoover probably thought she was writing with “Verity”, but this one is a LOT less unhinged.
I found the main character, Alex Kelley, quite like-able, especially given her personal battles. I think it’s important to remember everyone grieves differently. The author wove an intricate web of plot lines that all made sense, and appeared at the right moment. I will say (brushes my shoulders off) at the last second I figured out THE THING. So I’m basically a detective now. My true crime book will be on the shelves any day now.
All the characters were very well written, except ONE, I still don’t understand their purpose, besides moving the plot along? Possible red herring? I don’t want to go further and risk spoilers, but those that have read it should know when they come across them. So random.
Other than that, if you like true crime and liked The Keepers (on Netflix), then this should be right up your dark alley.
