Well. I thought this was great. Katie was candid, honest, funny, and reflective. She didn’t shy away from pointing out AND owning her missteps, mistakes and outright gaffes; I don’t know why there was any controversy about this book and seriously don’t get those accusations. This book really did “go there” and I felt like it wasn’t sanitized at all - did it always paint her in the best light? No. But it also shared her hard-work story about her rise in tv while also navigating her personal life, husband and sisters deaths, and the trials and tribulations of being a woman in a patriarchal society.

I listened to the audiobook, read by the author, and I’m glad I did that instead of read it. Katie’s familiar voice and skilled ability to vocally deliver a story - combined with a storytelling way of writing - made sure I never tuned the book out by accident, or got lost with what was happening. That can happen often for me, with books that don’t do well as audio books.

5 stars. A thoroughly enjoyable, informative and often funny 15 hours for me.

This memoir could have no other title than GOING THERE as that's very much what Katie Couric does in this reflective piece. No topic is off limits, and she's also not afraid to name names as she walks thorough her life and career. She is willing to share those times she messed up and/or things didn't go according to plan, AND she's also willing to share about when other humans made mistakes and/or didn't support her. I've always known Katie's public persona and remember many of the public experiences/events she mentions, so it was interesting to read her reflections on what was really happening in that moment, as well as how she feels about these happenings all these years later. This is definitely raw and honest and again epitomizes the concept of "going there" in a memoir.

I aspired to be the next Jane Pauley but Katie did it. She suffered the loss of her husband and sister to cancer and the challenges of the male hierarchy of TV news and remains a glass ceiling breaker today. Read her book in two days and then my mom took it home with her.

I really enjoyed this book and how Katie shares some of her mistakes. I thought she handled some of the more sensitive items really well and shows how she and others have changed/grown.

i always feel weird writing reviews of memoirs because i feel like i'm passing judgement on the people who wrote them. i'm obviously a katie couric fan and thought there were a ton of illuminating moments in this book. it was probably the breeziest memoir i've ever made my way through — but maybe that's also an issue i had with it? especially given all the losses katie has faced, i think i expected a little more depth to this book outside of just "x happened, x happened, etc etc etc." katie is beautifully optimistic — which is something i admire — i just found myself wanting her to give readers just a LITTLE bit more.

I listened to the audio book narrated by Katie herself. I found it engaging, self effacing fun and deeply personal.

I loved listening to Katie narrate the audiobook, I always love when the author reads her own memoir. She beautifully shares details from her personal life while highlighting pieces of her public career. She definitely spills all of the secrets on the details of what went on behind the camera and manages to do so in an honest and reflective way that is not salacious.
