I thought the behind the scenes look into the journalism industry was so cool and I used to live for the Today show so learning about it’s rise (and fall) was interesting for me. Katie definitely painted herself in a good light (obviously, she wrote the book is she going to make herself look bad?) and I definitely took a liking to her after getting to know her from the book. I also thought she was equally honest about mistakes she had made and seeing her reflect on her growth was very respectable. Tbh I didn’t know a ton about Katie Couric before reading this book since she was slightly before my time of watching the Today show so I mostly wanted to read this for the Matt Lauer of it all and to compare/contrast with The Morning show (the writers of the show hit things very on the nail). But I found myself enjoying a majority of the stories Katie shared and definitely getting emotional during the parts about her husband and sister, giving me the ever constant reminder that life is too short and never guaranteed so hug the ones you love while you can. My one major critique is that this book was tooooo long and not EVERY story needed to be told and you literally had to wait until the very end to learn about any of the Matt stuff. Still overall would recommend to anyone with a love for morning news shows, strong women in the workplace, emotional hardships, or some good tea.
Enjoyed listening to Katie discuss her career and life (mostly from college to near present), including most of those moments you know - her husband’s cancer and her fight for cancer, September 11th, her move to CBS nightly news then her own show, on to yahoo to Katie Couric Media today. It is interesting hearing her thoughts about all of it (including relationships). I thought the part about Today when they had all the sensational news was interesting. I didn’t like morning shows during that time and quit watching, and came back when it wasn’t all these weird lawsuits and craziness. A lot on the #metoo movement and especially the end of her friendship with Matt Lauer. Some of the things are hard to hear (like Civil War history with her husband Jay), but I also understand why she wanted to tell her story and look at her life as a journalist might. I felt like the book contained parts of her life that someone might talk about on the Today Show, so I can see why she included them.
