This is my childhood manga.i love the artstyle and the tone of the story.but i personally think they went overboard with the fanservice…. But that is really just a personal preference. But overall i love the concept of the powers and book so much!!!

How terribly juvenile. How many naked girls can they cram in a first volume? And what's the deal with the monster design in the first chapter?

Thoughts: I know I gave this series a hard time at first, but I really did start to fall in love with it the further I went. It took me a while to finally sit down and just read through them all, but I never felt like it was a chore to read it. I grew to appreciate more of the side characters, and the witches finally felt more important as the story went on. I loved the development of Kid, Maka, Soul and Black ⭐Star. I just really started to vibe with the series around the halfway point. I usually would believe that to be too long for me to start to appreciate a series, but it worked out in the end for Soul Eater. I'm not giving it 5 stars mostly due to that, but I also would've liked the ending to be slightly more fleshed out. Other than that it was an enjoyable series to read through.

Thoughts: I keep starting and stopping as I get other manga in the mail, but I'm starting to enjoy it more now. I'm much further in the mangaka's other series (Fire Force), so I think that one is still more enjoyable for me. This one is growing on me though!

Update July 6th, 2020

Manga Status: Completed
My Reading Status: On Hold - Possible Drop
Published English Volumes/Chapters Read: 4 Volumes - 14 Chapters

Thoughts: I kinda expressed my thoughts on this series when I did my current [b:Fire Force Vol. 1|32919114|Fire Force Vol. 1|Atsushi Ohkubo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1478597809l/32919114._SY75_.jpg|50804290] review, but I'll repeat some of that here. Something about Soul Eater just doesn't completely grab my attention. It's intriguing for sure, but there isn't enough that makes me look forward to the next volume. I'm still at the beginning of the series, but usually by volume 2 or 3 I get a good grasp on whether I'll enjoy it or not. I do enjoy what I've read so far, but there's also a lot that I don't enjoy as well. I like how different the art style is compared to other manga that I've read, but I feel that the plot is still very convoluted and up in the air. I'm not attached to any characters yet but I don't mind it either. I've had this manga on hold for a while, and I even found that I enjoy the mangaka's new series to be more fun for me to read. I usually won't have a manga that's been completed on hold for this long, but I just can't find the motivation to keep going when I have other manga I'm currently reading that are interesting me a whole lot more. I'm considering dropping it, but there are some high points that I really would love to keep reading about. Soul and Maka are the main reason why I haven't dropped it, especially concerning the Black Blood and what it means. Because of that alone I'm still holding out and will hopefully come back to this series in the near future.

Soul Eater is an interesting take on the idea of death reapers. There are different levels/types of reapers and they all have a weapon. This weapon needs to 'eat' souls to level up and become a Death Scythe. The first volume introduces the reader to the world of reaper school, Death Meister Weapon Academy, and the various students and weapons. Humorous, action packed, and quite a bit of fan-service. Interesting idea, yet could do without the fan-service.

Teenage me clearly forgot or forgave a lot of fanservice… adult me was not up for the feat of trying to turn a blind eye to it when trying to reread it…

its a good first volume but theirs a bit to much fanservise in it for me I might give it a few more volumes to see if it gets better.

Soul Eater was one of my first animes, and still to this day, it's one of my favorite animes if not my absolute favorite. I've re-watched the anime an absurd amount of times.
And now I am here rereading the 1st volume of the manga for the 3rd time. Since I want to actually read the entire manga.
I feel like this is important to mention because it means that I'm already very interested in this series. And I do think the manga is good, it's just the anime definitely smoothed down some of Soul Eater's rougher edges (though the anime still isn't entirely perfect). Those rough edges I feel like at least to me are due to the very abundant fanservice. I personally don't care for fanservice, but over the years of consuming anime and manga, I've gotten to a point where I can ignore it. But it's a lot in Soul Eater.
Though despite this I still love this manga. I just love the characters so much. All of them have such strong personalities and they all bounce off each other fantastically! There's also just the atmosphere and vibe Soul Eater has which is just *chefs kiss*. It's very Halloweeny and I just absolutely adore it. I just absolutely adore Soul eater.
So if you can ignore or don't mind the excessive fanservice, please check out Soul Eater. Maybe if it's too much for you check out the anime at least. But do be warned the anime and manga storylines diverge at some point. And I am pretty sure that the fanservice in the manga dissipates at least a little bit over time :)
Anyway excited to continue my reread and also make my way onto some Soul Eater I am unfamiliar with :D
