Deceptively dense for how slim it is. I came away with the sense a lot of the 'purpose' went over my head. It's an allegory? A meditation? As intriguing as the characters were, as compelling as their challenges... it felt cold. I wasn't expecting them to 'fix' each other, and the connection that develops between them feels real, but... something was lacking. I suppose there's an inherent difficulty in trying to show that meaningful connection when one character is mostly inward and non responsive.
The poetry of the images couldn't quite carry it over the mark for me.

Really enjoyed it, adored what Han Kang did with the language and narration, its love for language and words spoke directly to my heart, and its (tiny, short) tale on human connection and life's pains was deeply moving.

Truly, Han Kang remains undefeated in my eyes, she's just a brilliant author, always new and always consistently brilliant.

Absolutely incredible. I could reread and reread this. The discussion of language and depiction of our relationship with language and how we communicate is breathtaking. A beautifully moving book.
