There is nothing to find. Life is not about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself. There's something liberating about knowing your own bones, all the things you are capable of. Being unapologetically yourself makes you invincible.
Dear God, NO.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for these books! I loved Sam and Aisling's story so much!
I really like LJ Shen’s Vicious serie & co, was quite fine with the Monster but this one was not my kind of jam.
I liked the fact that the heroine was already in love with Sam since the first time they met and it would have been good to see him progressively changing while interacting with her.
But no, the man only react when he can loose her for real. And pretend he was waiting for her and thinking about her all along ...
And I’m surprised to say this but I really disliked the sex scenes. There was no real tension, just some guy taking what is offered and being mean just after.
Even if she finally put a stop to these behaviours, I wasn’t convince and I didn’t believe their happy ending

I really, really enjoyed this one. It wasn’t able to hold my attention all the way through (hit a bit of a valley around 75/80%) so I had to read this in spurts, but overall I really liked it.
Yes, these characters and their relationship had plenty of toxic moments, but it was an enjoyable read & kept me entertained.

This is Sam and Aisling’s story and it feels like I’ve waited forever. Sam Brennan is the man I’ve wanted to know more about since Sparrow and Ainsley Fitzpatrick is easily the most intriguing of the ladies. She’s so reserved, we don’t know her at all. I was worried that I was building this up too much so it would be a letdown. I liked The Villain, Cillian and Persephone, but not as much as Hunter and Sailor and their story so it was a valid fear.
Those fears were completely unfounded. These two are stellar and their story is epic.
It started out almost predictable: Aisling is pining for Sam, he ignores her. She still lives at home at twenty-seven, taking care of her needy, histrionic mother. She seems weak but the truth she’s hiding under the gracious demeanor is very different. Don’t mistake kindness or selflessness for weakness, they’re not the same thing and Ainsley Fitzpatrick is an excellent example.
Sam is every bit as cold and calculated as expected, at first but we slowly learn that he’s long had feelings for her, he’s just fought them every step of the way. There’s a lot of Troy and especially Sparrow parenting Sam in this book and I loved it. The idea of these people who raised a stone-cold killer pulling the “A mother knows” card on him could easily crash and burn if not done right but Shen knocked it out of the park.
There’s much more to this story than possibly-unrequited love. Much unfolds to show us who Ainsley truly is and it’s shocking but impressive. She’s a complete badass and capable of much more than I imagined. To say she gives the infamous mobster a run for his money is a major understatement and nobody was more shocked – or pleased – to see it than Sam. It’s also worth noting that there’s way more backstory to these two than I’d guessed and I loved everything about it. Their initial interactions were fascinating and it gave the story more depth. The banter is excellent and these two are also super steamy, too.
I couldn’t put this book down, devouring it in record speed and loving every minute of the story. Their love story is one of my favorites and their lives are interesting enough that LJ could easily give us a sequel. Yeah, yeah, I know it won’t happen but a girl can dream, right? There was a lot going on here but it all made sense and there are some real surprises from the supporting cast. This instantly became one of my favorite LJ books and I’ll enjoy reading it again as much as I did the first time.

“You are dumb. But it’s okay. You’re hot and
ooze that look-at-me-I’m-dangerous vibe, so I’m sure you’ll find someone.”
“Don’t forget rich.”
“Not by my standards. Just try not to make conversation. You’re not very good at it.”
“Based on you dry humping my leg like a bitch in heat five seconds ago, I’m sure I’ll be able to keep them entertained some other way.”
damn this shit was angsty fr and the main guy is a terrible person but i just can’t help but love the main couple at the end of these kinds of books even after the main guy being a dickhead sexist freakazoid bc i always end up forgetting why i hate him in the first place. i can for sure acknowledge that he is a terrible person bc i hate when men are like i only thought of you when i was w other women like why you with other women and hes highkey sexist and is so rude and cold to the main girl despite her loving him for a decade. also he’s a pedo freak bc why tf you kissing a 17 year old at your grown ass age… would it hurt the author sm to make the main girl 18 at that moment but even if she’s 18 ew to a grown ass man wanting a teen yk. i be talking all this shit but the ending did get me good ngl i talk out of my ass fr. but i really wasn’t w fan of the main guy for majority of the book until the ending bc i won’t lie the groveling is kinda good he spent months tryna win her back but he took forevs to realize that he wants her like even after she said she was done w him he was like ok i don’t need her until he got some closure from her dad like come on you gotta step it up. the main girl i was rooting for bc the beginning of the book i was like stand up pls don’t let this man talk down to you and piss you off like that especially when he brought another girl to this party that looked just like her dead to me she goes through sm. i loved reading her stand up to him tho like when she was over his shit i was cheering so hard like her snapping on everyone was what i was waiting for bc everyone sees as this quiet complaint girly working at the hospital and all that but she’s sm more to that and has grown through sm but no one knows bc she doesn’t tell him but it’s bc they don’t really pay attention to her like come on. the brothers hella annoyed me w the way they were treating her in the family making her feel like an outcast come on that’s your sister and you’re gonna act like that tf. she’s literally such an interesting character to read bc even tho i was like stand up i get why she’s like that as she was the caretaker to her mom when she became supes depressed and she just wants someone to take care of her and seeks for the approval of others that she’ll sacrifice her own peace for them like come on that’s my girl let her breathe. stop when she made that plan to figure out the person who was behind the conflict w her parent’s marriage was the main guy ugh she’s so smart and she’s moving on from the main guy i love that sm. also i was hoping for the dad to be a good at the end bc of the way the main girl described her parents dynamic they’re toxic but they do love each other which was why i was hoping what the main guy found out about him and his mom wasn’t true and i was right but main guy literally insane fr bc he could’ve talked about it to the dad but he wanted a reason to not want the main girl i was just like… i wanted her not to end up w him for majority of the book but then his redemption arc got me it wasn’t even the best but my standards are so low but he was just always seeing the main girl consistently and groveling for months to do whatever she wanted him to do but then all a sudden he tried flipping the tables and all a sudden he’s saving himself for marriage like ok he got his comedic bits at times and then him and the main girl played a blackjack game where if he won she would marry him and he won but he was like this isn’t just another game i want you so bad fr and all that and my corny ass was like that’s so romantic omg pls someone shoot me for this. he’s still a freakazoid pedo tho for preying on the main girl when she was 17 and grieving after her bestfriend which took me a while to realize it was the governess house maid she has and that the french italics where her consciousness pretending to be the old bestie like i forgot the main girl was irish and that wasn’t her mom in her head but no that’s the bestie whoops. but yeah he’s mad weird but the thing is these book ratings are based on my enjoyment and not on what a good book is but that will dock a few points bc ew i cant enjoy a pedo too much. like why lj shen books been giving rina kent fr anyways i’ll give this a 8/10 i was extremely hooked i couldn’t put this down it’s crazy.
Ngl this dude really annoyed me.
How can you possibly be this ignorant and dumb.
And how much can she endure?
Where's your independence and pride, girl?
I didn't think somebody could be this naive.
The story behind her secret job was well written and I definitely see how this has affected her.
Even if I hated this guy I enjoyed this story and it was fairly easy/quick to read.
