Coming off of The Villain, this book was sort of underwhelming. I already knew that no one was going to top Cillian and Persephone but everything in this book just meh. Nothing really stood out and grasped by attention like The Villain did and Sam was just not giving me what he needed to give. Aisling was alright as a heroine and I liked when she grew a backbone but then she gave in too quickly and I was disappointed. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the part where she read Sailor, Persy, and Emmabelle for filth. Based on how this book went my expectation for Emmabelle's book is at a low but who knows maybe it will revive this series.

4/5 - definitely liked this the most out of the LJ Shen I have read so far... didn't realize it was #3 in the series otherwise I would've started with #1 and I think it would've answered some questions I had. overall good book and I loved the enemies to lovers pipeline (but seriously who doesn't)

this had so much potential but it was so boring. BRING BACK THE VILLAIN GHOST WRITER

Sam and Aisling's story felt flat for me, they didn't behave or talk like what the storyline, world-building, and character's background needed it to. I enjoyed previous books in the series, The Villain was good, but this one just didn't cut it for me, I love dark romance, I have even read about H being a bully, being a sadist, and even a cheater, I have no triggers so this is not the problem here. I understand that sometimes the h lacks the spine bone but eventually grows and develops but Aisling felt too short from everything. Sam on the other side is supposed to be this character I read about from previous books and when the time for him came it crumbled my expectations, the way he acted, his dialogue is not what I envisioned and looked forward to, this felt more like a high school drama than an older man, it just didn't match. I might have had a bigger expectation from the blurb, but in this case and in my personal opinion I think it just wasn't the book I expected.

Enjoyable angsty romance. This is book 3 in a set of interconnected stand alones.

Aisling and Sam are complete opposites on paper. She's a doctor and he's a mafia head. Aisling has always been in love with Sam, while Sam has always distanced himself from her for numerous reasons.

When they finally start to give into their attraction for each other new information comes to light connecting their families. This leaves Sam hell-bent on revenge even if Aisling might get caught in the crossfire.

I was pretty excited about Sam and Aisling's romance. For me though, it just didn't reach the scorching heat levels of Hunter and Sailor or the heartbreaking angst of Killian and Persephone. I did enjoy it, but I didn't love it as much as I expected.

Best parts
Seeing into Sam Brennans mind and learning the history that lead to his mafia rise.
Troy Brennan as a father
Aisling making him work for it.
All the hidden touches, looks and words.

“I finally realized why Hunter was so obsessed with my sister. Why Cillian couldn’t tear himself away from Persephone. There was something addicting about a woman who gave you her everything. Something that was hard to walk away from once you’d tasted it.”

She has done it again! This is by far my favorite in the Boston Belles series now! As expected, Sam was everything and more! What I did not expect was to love Aisling so much! I was expecting her to annoy me and not have a backbone. But she did not, she is strong. She made Sam chase her when she decided to give up on him. She made him do all the work after she had chased him for so long. She did not give in right away either.

Aisling has wanted Sam since she was 17. The only issue is, he is being paid by her brothers and father to not only work for them but to not touch her. But one encounter of her dressed as someone else, he gets his first taste of her. He realizes it’s her and can’t hold back any more. But the next day he finds out his bio mom died and he finds something he doesn’t expect. Now all he wants is to hurt Aisling’s father. His feelings for her keep getting stronger and stronger and he starts to feel guilty.

Sam hates the female population, except for his mom (Sparrow) and sister (Sailor). I love his relationship with Sparrow! I cannot wait for Devon & Bell. Sam has always been my favorite of the men with Devon being second!
