I cannot for the life of me remember what happened in the last novel, even though I just read it two months ago. So I'm going into this as if it's a stand alone.
The novel started off quite questionable. A little spoiler... the female protagonist kissed this random stranger, later only to witness him murder a man and yet still has the hots for the him....ummm... ok. Actually she's obsessed with the guy... for over 10 years! Very weird and outrageously unbelievable.

The more I read, the more ridiculous the story gets. So many things wrong with this novel. Also the story just dragged on and on the last quarter. Just skip this novel....actually just skip this whole series.

Swoon Worthy
Sam....oh wow. I was expecting a lot of different things out of this book and was kinda gobsmacked with what I received. It was the most frustratingly wonderful push and pull between 2 people. I loved Ash's character development and how she really made Sam work for her in the end rather than continuing to be a doormat. I do wish Sam had more vulnerable moments but I would also say the ending had even more impact on me because there weren't as many tender moments with him. This was a fun read and kept me riveted the whole time. I love this series!

I've come to realize I like dark romance more than what I thought and I don't know if I should be concerned. Anyway, my favourite character in this was hands down Aisling - the entire "sweet, innocent, fragile" little girl who has far too much on her shoulders, who keeps who she truly is hidden so that everything around doesn't implode only to find a man who finally sees her for who she is and let's her be free for once just made this book amazing. The forbidden trope was the cherry on top.
i hate being excited for things because I am literally always disappointed
- the premise of samaisling was so good and it had so much potential yet here we are
- there were parts of the story where I was like yes!!! that is the story I wanted - any time aisling had a backbone basically
- look, sam grovelling etc was great and I liked it enough but it was not nearly long enough
- aisling just needed to be slapped around the head honestly maybe it would have knocked some sense into her because her behaviour was beyond embarrassing
- like girl you’re literally a doctor who graduated from Harvard like arent you supposed to have a brain in there somewhere
- anytime aisling had a backbone the book was actually semi decent
- the banter between them at times was great and they should have had that dynamic consistently throughout the book
- I don’t claim the sam Brennan in this book
- literally what is the reason for making the male protagonist of your story like this like for fucks sake this is a romance readers just wanna like both characters and root for them to end up together why would u purposefully make him such an asshole completely unprovoked
- there were nuggets of the sam Brennan that would have made sense and worked well in the story, him being a mathematical genius etc
- he got played so easily and shot so easily and it’s like???? this man is supposed to be the most feared mob boss in all of Boston???? do u not even try to make this shit realistic
- the word monster was so fucking overused in this book it made we wanna scream
- the blackjack scene or whatever the fuck that was great tho
- we deserved more domestic samaisling, this book is so long it could have easily been added in

These books can be read alone BUT I wouldn't suggest it.
It's a combination between Billionaire/Mafia Men, with stubborn, grumpy sunshine, I'm never getting married players with seemingly no emotions over anything more than POWER and MONEY.
Fall in love with these strong women who tame these stubborn men. All 4 of these stories are hard to put down, full on suspense, thrillers and steamy passion books. I never wanted it to end.
There is a 0.5 book I've yet to read about the parents of 2 of the characters, but I will get to it 'one day'.
Each book is full of friendship with the men and women along with some seriously messed up parents and pasts that haunt them. Learning to heal the past with someone to hold your hand and grab your heart gives us all hope.

If you're into powerful mafia-like families then you will like this series. The Boston Belles is about the young women (and their close friends) in these two families. The Monster is the love story of Sam Brennan and Aisling Fitzpatrick. This book wasn't my favorite in the series but I did enjoy it. Looking forward to reading more works by LJ Shen!
Wow.
