I mostly listened to this via audible, with occasionally reading the book. So I don’t know if my opinion of the book is based on the narrators’ performance or what, but this book sucked for me.
Nothing about their story felt romantic. Nix was desperate and the level of embarrassment I felt for her begging to be with this man. Even so much that she would rather sleep with him and have her believe she was someone else. Ugh!! Reading that part of the story, almost made me delete the story.
There was nothing appealing about her desperation and his lack of interest and straight up disrespect.
I only continued reading- because it became a challenge to see how the author could flip this around.
Like she made the characters so horrible, that at the end it would be a miracle for the reader to cheer for them.
If that was the goal, she didn’t meet it. If anything, I’m more disappointed in the time I wasted on something I had a feeling would be disappointing.

The Monster totally took me by surprised. I was not expecting this at all. Another amazing book by LJ Shen.
Aisling have had a crush on Sam the moment she met him. Sam was this ruthless, broken, broody hero that he doesn't let anyone get to him. The more time he spends with Aisling, his wall slowly crumbles. The Fitpatrick's reputation was getting torn in the public's eye, and Aisling wouldn't let anything happened to them. She was willing to do anything to help her family.
I still can't get over the twist. That twist alone got me loving the Aisling so freaking much. I might even love her more than Sam. It was definitely explosive. It caught me off guard, and I couldn't stop reading!!! You'll love this family even more after reading The Monster.

Darker and better then the others
This book was darker and better then L.J's other books. I was really excited than see Sam's book especially since we saw the story unfold in the Bells of Boston series.

I wanted to love this book, I just couldn’t do it. I was really disappointed by Ash. I couldn’t not STAND the way Sam continuously put her down, treated her like trash, and used her for sex. Girl, have some self-respect for yourself. I just can’t imagine being in love with a man for 10 years and constantly being rejected. She lived and breathed for him and he was such an asshole to her. There needs to be a balance between the alpha males jerkiness and likability…I felt like this one kinda missed the boat on that. And as much as I liked the sex scenes, I felt they were too aggressive. Sam just gave some emotional abusive vibes to me and that turned me off. Also, Sam did such a complete 180 at the end of the book, it was hard to believe he was actually sincere about his love. It seems like the whole series did a complete turn about at the very end, and made each story feel rushed.

"It was always Monster. And I was his Nix."
Unexpected. This book blew my mind with the absolutely astounding way that this story unfolded.
I finished this book last week and it’s been on my mind non-stop! I’ve re-read it so many times. So many drool-worthy scenes!
Anyone who knows me knows that I have been waiting for Sam Brennan almost since the day I was born (plus Sam was born in August too so we are literally soulmates and everyone can back off). Ruthless, dashing, and terrifying with an ever-present challenging smirk plastered on his beautiful face. A monster–through and through. But, behind that rough exterior is a boy who went through more than anyone could have before the age of 9, and a man who never felt like he truly belonged. Sam’s backstory is heartbreaking and though he stands tall, there’s a lot of cracks in his soul. He’s a complex character, who owns his personality with finesse and calm. Even though he may have some jagged edges, deep down, there’s something so very soft about him. For a man who thinks he is incapable of love, Sam is a phenomenal lover. He’s possessive, hot, and would do anything for his Nix.
Aisling Fitzpatrick was the most jarring surprise. “Elegant and aristocratic,” as Sam says, absolutely. But, she is so much more. Ash is such a complex character. She loves unapologetically, wears her heart on her sleeve, and gives so much of her to people–even Sam, when he least deserves it. Let it be known, she is no doormat. She is strong, with a spine of steel, and knows her worth. Aisling is a surprise.
Sam and Aisling have so much history that no one in their family is privy to. The world seems to be against them and yet, like two magnets in the middle of a war-torn field, they find one another.
Samuel Brennan and Aisling Fitzpatrick are so meant to be. Their story is magical, their love is profound, and they are so very beautiful.
A heart-melting whirlpool of romance, angst, lust, and most importantly, love.
