Actually took me a while to get into the book and I wasn't really sure what I thought of it. There seemed to be a lot going on all at one but now I have finished the story I realised it didnt really tell you anything and very cleverly leaves you needing to reading #2!!

I am intreguaed to find ut more about Tessa and her heritage particularly what she is. And also about Will as there seems to be alot going on there that obviously we will find out about in the next book.

I am loving th fact that they have a black cat in the book called 'Church' as I too have one :)

All in all I enjoyed the book more that I thought I would and feel like I need to read Clockwork Prince NOW to find out what happened.

DID NOT FINISH: 21%

It felt too juvenile, and disjointed. Didn’t capture my attention or motivate me to find out what is going on.

Upon the death of her aunt, orphaned Tess crosses the Atlantic to join her brother in London. When she arrives in London, she is greeted by the nefarious Dark Sisters, who hold her captive. After repeatedly being forced to exercise her power to change -- transform into someone else --Tess is saved from the Dark Sisters, and brought to live with the Shadowhunters in the Institute. Who are the Shadowhuters? “A thousand years ago, the Angel Raziel mixed his blood with the blood of men and created the race of the Nephilim. Human-angel hybrids, they walk among us, unseen but ever-present, our invisible protectors.” (www.shadowhunters.com). I really enjoyed the setting of Victorian London, and the descriptions of the Institute and the characters’ clothing. There was a good mix of good guys and bad guys, and there was definitely some intriguing love connections brewing at the end of the story.

I have been hearing quite a bit about these books for a while, and decided to finally check out the series. A friend of mine recommended that I start with the Infernal Devices series before the Mortal Instruments, as she read all three books in the former series in a weekend! Although I enjoyed this book, I definitely didn’t read it in a weekend – in fact it was a pretty slow read for me. This is a pretty hefty book, and the fact that it is young adult didn’t seem to make it any faster for me to read, as YA books typically do. Part of this might be due to the fact that I don’t traditionally love fantasy books. Although I admit I got caught up in some of the blockbuster series (Twilight, anyone?), I tend to prefer contemporary stories.

The ending definitely left me hanging, and if I didn’t know there were more books in the series, I would have been sorely disappointed! The jury is still out on whether or not I will read the remaining books in this series. While I did enjoy it, I didn’t feel the urge to immediately start the second book.
