I read and enjoyed the Mortal Instruments earlier this year, so I was really looking forward to this one. And I liked it even more than the Mortal Instruments. Victorian London is always fun to read about, and as a bonus, I didn't have to deal with any annoying hipsters running around NYC. Plus, the editing was definitely sharper in this book than in the previous series. There was only one passage that made me crazy! Definitely an intriguing set up, and I'm excited to read the rest.

this book came to me at a time when i really needed to feel the simple, childlike joy and escapism that only a magical YA fantasy with a love triangle can provide. except, this one was actually well written? and the love triangle is actually good? insanity.
but seriously, reading this curled up in a chair at the library, and ravenously under blankets in the dark with my reading light at 4am while hiding from my real-life issues…an experience that has truly reconnected me with why reading is so important to me. i fear cassandra clare finally has a dire chokehold on me, which was perhaps inevitable.
also will herondale and jem carstairs i want you so bad…just one chance………

ok this is way better!! i honestly don’t know how good of a book it is cuz of the beef and resentment i hold towards the author but it wasn’t a bore to read. I mean it was immensely exciting as i have read it before but at least the characters are interesting and the plot was as well. though i’m starting to feel a bit foolish for reading this series for this long or for this many books. i have to read like poetry or something to make me feel like i’m actually reading something of substance after all this
