I purchased both books of this duology from Half-Priced Books.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, the overarching story. There were some times that the pace of the writing seemed a little jarring, and I would have to re-read parts to make it make sense in my head and it would pull me out of the story a bit. But this didn't happen overmuch, and I think it could be contributed to being a debut.
I already have the second book and will be starting on it today, and I am looking forward to seeing how everything comes together.
I think the world building was very interesting, and I hope that we dive into it even more with the second installment.

The world was interesting but I found the pace at which characters got information frustrating
I quite liked the book. Relationship are between the main characters wonderful at best or tolerable at worst. What I think shines here is especially the worldbuilding. It really intrigued me and pushed me to read through the pacing, that was not the greatest at times.

i don't know what it was about this book, but every time i opened it it was like i entered a time warp where it took twenty minutes to finish a single page of text, and by the time i had finished any given page i'd forgotten what was on it, and i'd need to reread it, and any time spent with the book felt like a slow eternity. i spent half a year giving reading this book intermittently my best shot, and by the time i crossed the threshold of a hundred pages, by the time the protagonist and the love interest got married, i couldn't take it anymore. it's probably a fine book, but not for me lol

I love a spooky forest and this definitely delivered. I didn’t expect the interludes, but I liked it.
