This book started a bit slow and took some time to develop a sense of urgency. It did pick up, though (about 1/3rd in), and was more engaging. The descriptions were beautiful, atmospheric, and dark (though sometimes veering into melodramatics) and the twists and turns felt mostly organic and unique (though some left me with unanswered questions). I really loved the way the author described the power of the Wilderwood. The characters could have been developed a bit more because I didn’t care as much as I probably should have. I especially felt like Eammon was unfinished. He seemed a bit like the generic love interest who conveniently kept things from Red to “protect her” (ewww this trope) when I wanted him to be the hard, centuries-old beast-creature he was advertised to be. I actually found that I preferred the chapters back in Valleyda with Red’s sister Neve, which was the side story rather than the main plot. All in all, a good read. I’ll likely pick up the second when it comes out next year.

It was entertaining enough, but seemed very similar to Uprooted. Though, the writing wasn’t was strong. I found some plot points didn’t connect, but it was fine overall. I wish we had more of the sister dynamic. I felt this could have been a great example of showing desperate people do stupid things. But though it was trying to convey that, the way it was written glossed over those emotions that I think could have really hit well.
World building could also have been stronger and the choices made for power didn’t have much negative consequence as was hyped

I found the writing kind of simplistic and the narration style wasn't my favorite. That being said it was an easy read and I'll probably read the next story in the series. I think it was an enjoyable read, but at the same time it could have been a much more interesting book. I kept finding the dialogue/thought process/storyline as too simple and expected. Also they mentioned that he smelled like coffee and old books one million times which is ridiculous. People's eye colors were also mentioned every other page, so bits of this were silly and a bit childish.

SBeauty and the Beast but darker and with more nature and magic. This was really good, so immersive. I was sucked into the beautifully dark world with gorgeous writing and world building. Really liked the storyline and the secondary romance plot. Bbok 2 should be interesting

I thought the magic and forest were very interesting concepts, but it fell flat a bit for me. Some plot points felt a bit repetitive, and some of the decisions made by the characters were a bit ridiculous and nonsensical.

”-Sometimes you don’t mourn people so much as you mourn who they could’ve been.”

I didn’t pick this quote for love, but for the representation, it presented for how relatable it was for this book. I mourned this book for what It could’ve been.

Because For The Wolf did not deliver.

I'm sad to say I didn’t like this book, I'm not going to lie I mostly picked this book because of the stunning cover and I thought It would be like a similar red riding hood retelling that you mostly don’t hear too much about.

But what mostly broke my heart was the potential this book could’ve had. Throughout the book, I was either bored or didn’t know what the hell was going on.

Another thing that irked my nerves was that the author would put kings as a replacement for cursing but still inputted things like shit or (correct me if I'm wrong), fuck. It got to the point that the word kings was just useless to use at that point.

And that wasn’t even all that didn’t make any sense, most of the story didn’t make any sense. In all reality I really just wanted the story to be over, for the oblivious
