Auburn book club October 2018 selection.

An interesting read for a late October book club meeting. Jumping back and forth from the current day to 1682, the late 1800's, and 1916 you get to know the witch's daughter and how she survived an essentially very lonely existence. This sets the backdrop to our witch befriending a young girl who becomes close enough to be the witch's daughter.

There's a lot of strength in the text and the story flows well but in the end, I think the key relationships are just not strong enough to support the climactic finish.

Wow this book was insanely inconsistent. I think it was strongest during Bess' flashbacks, however. And holy abrupt ending. You'd think after centuries of struggle the resolution would have a little more gravitas.

I enjoyed the story with its time travel between historical events. Fun read.

Very different than what I thought. Loved it though! It was exciting and magical.

Well written but unfortunately it was very predictable.

Well, it could be worse. I liked that the protagonist was a middle-aged to elderly woman (for most of the book at least) - makes a refreshing change from all that 17-year-old, prime-of-my-life crap. But the story moved along really slowly. It's not really a bildungsroman, though it has a lot of those characteristics, and it's not really whatever the opposite of a bildungsroman is, either. The plot had a lot of potential that it didn't live up to.

This book started off a little slow but once I got into it I really enjoyed it
