I got bored. Also, sliding terribly close to the parts of Wicca that are appropriative and make me cringe.
I'm sure it's for someone. Not for me.

I received this book through a goodreads giveaway.
3.5 stars.
I enjoyed the book overall, though I did put it down for a few weeks to finish up a book club book and didn't really miss it, but enjoyed it again when I picked it back up.
This is apparently the first in a series and, based on the ending of the book, it looks like Tegan might be a main character in the next book, which is not terribly appealing to me. Tegan was the least developed character in the book and I really felt no connection with her. I wish the relationship between Elizabeth and Tegan had felt stronger to me, but it seemed like the author just wanted it to be a strong relationship and wrote the story as if it were, but didn't lay the foundation for it.
In any event, I look forward to giving the next book a try and I will probably even pick up one of Brackston's other witch books.

I started out thinking I might not like this book all that much about 15 min in. Because I typically don’t want to read historical fictions because they can be too serious for me while all I’m looking for is just magic and escapism. But let me tell you it delivered all that and more. It is sensual, mysterious and every bit enticing. I enjoyed it so much. And very well written. Different timelines for ties together so nicely. The romance, *sigh*, all of them so much longing and it did so well in pulling and hooking you along and yet just never quite get past the teasing parts.
Spoiler
The wicked side of me sorta wished for more of the enemy to lovers trope because I just find that immensely sexy but alas that was not the case.
This was a little out of my usual reading zone, as I haven't read much witchcraft fiction past Harry Potter. Bess Hawksmith's mother is a 17th century midwife, accused of witchcraft after the plague strikes their village, even though her own family suffered losses. To save her daughter, her mother sends Bess to Gideon Masters for help. Helping for his own reasons, Bess becomes a witch in truth. But now she has a powerful nemesis in Gideon, who stalks her through the centuries. We see them in Victorian London, in WW I France, and in the modern day, where Bess must figure out how to protect her inadvertent apprentice. The book was intriguing in its immortality aspect, and seemed well -researched and well-written. I liked it, but this genre still isn't my thing.
