A conflicted read in general. Wonder if November IRL sank this one too?

Portion of the book I really liked and the audio was quite well done. Mostly I would characterize this as a pleasant read but not thematically or emotionally demanding at all.

It was all a bit surface level - which is not bad if you know what you’re getting into. For example the choice of the historical periods was very obvious. It’s been done before and I didn’t see what this book was doing with the setting which linked to the character - I call historical fiction tourism vs immersion.

Nonetheless the first half I quite enjoyed. The time spent with the heroine’s family especially was well done. It was a fun time when the third act cropped up - it was a firefight which was so stupid that I had a smile. It pulled down the book overall for me.

Pleasant enough read - would recommend the audio as it keeps the book moving along.

Last thing to note - this is more historical fiction than fantasy so adjust expectations when going in.

I liked the idea of this book. But my thoughts and feelings on certain events and actions this book had made it hard for me at some points. As an actual practicing witch, it was hard. But It was not that bad.

The Witch's Daughter tells the story of a witch named Elizabeth, who has lived for centuries and has mastered the art of witchcraft. Brackston's writing is immersive and captivating, drawing the reader into Elizabeth's world of magic and mystery. The characters are richly developed, particularly Elizabeth, whose struggle to find her place in a world that fears and rejects her is both relatable and inspiring. The novel seamlessly blends history and fantasy, transporting the reader to different time periods and locations.
One of the strengths of the novel is Brackston's ability to create a sense of tension and urgency throughout the story, making it difficult to put the book down. The use of magic and the supernatural adds an exciting element to the plot, while also exploring the power dynamics between witches and the rest of society.
This novel is a masterful work of fantasy fiction that will leave readers enchanted and wanting more. Brackston's expert storytelling and imaginative world-building make this book a must-read for fans of the genre.

Overall I enjoyed this book! There were ups and downs but I finished it in a very quick sitting. There were parts that were a bit slow and some questions unanswered but I will definitely be trying some of her other books in the series.

Loved this book. It's much more than just a fantasy novel. It's about family, our place in the world and overcoming the obstacles in life.

Quite beautiful.

I love this witchy tale. Historical fiction is my favorite genre so the fact that this has multiple time periods makes it a winner for me. It was a fun read.
