It took a while to get into the story. The first 150 pages are basically just about life in the 1600s. But then shit gets real and I MIGHT have cried, whatever, I don't know guys. Definitely interesting, but definitely narrated by someone who grew up in the 1600s.

Immediately annoyed that the witch from the 1600s calls her craft Wicca and (which is a 20th century religion) and references Ostara, which has no historical basis as a part of the wheel of the year, it's again a modern invention. The barest amount of research into witchcraft was apparently not done when writing this book. Then I learned this book has 2 graphic rape scenes... That's a no go for me.

2.5 stars. I really thought I'd enjoy it more. I found fascinating the descriptions, from a personal perspective, of major historical events. The Black Death, witch trails, the War. But, ultimately, I wasn't moved. Probably, for me, the lack of a wonderful romance is what was missing.
Although it took me forever to finish this book, I loved it. The time was mostly due to having a busy life. Anyhow, if you like a little bit of historical novel and magic...this is the book for you. It was right up my alley.
A wonderful story from start to finish. A real page turner. Hope to read more by this author
