I started this book on Halloween/Samhain...how appropriate. I absolutely loved this book. It followed the moon cycles and wiccan holy days and went into witchcraft in depth. It also delved into the plague, which is a weird fascination of mine, and war and Jack the Ripper. The historical aspects were interesting and informing. The witchery parts were utterly brilliant, the descriptions of magic were well magical...
I love the main character, Bess, in all of her forms. The plot itself was captivating. The ending was dramatic and I could barely breathe through it.
Overall, a new favorite. And now I want to go join a coven and chant under the moon.

It was a good book for Halloween time, but somewhat boring, because it was predictable. Also, some of the scenes were very gruesome and difficult to read. I would have liked the main character, Elizabeth, to have a bit more courage, too.
