I was among those lucky to receive an ARC of this book by the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you’ve read any of my reviews, you likely know all about my soft spot for retellings— but, I swear, this author brings it to a whole other level.
As is the norm with Rebecca F. Kenney, the writing is beautiful and the imagery vivid. You can always count on this author for a really fun read that will draw you into its embrace and hold you there a good while, sticking with you long after you finish reading. I wished I could have read this in one sitting, and think I would have if I hadn’t had pesky responsibilities to tend to.
Alice In Wonderland meets our favorite sugarplum faerie and his badass human girlfriend? That itself was enough to sell me on this book, especially after having recently devoured A Court of Sugar and Spice— and, if you can believe it, it got even better.
What if The White Rabbit and The Cheshire Cat were wicked and drool-worthy fae males, who found themselves torn between eating Alice up, ravaging and savoring her, or taking her apart bit by bit to utilize her parts as a tool for the “greater good” of the Unseelie kingdom?
A lot of times, I feel like it can be a difficult thing to introduce so many new characters without worry of overshadowing the originals that we so love, or vice versa, but thankfully didn’t find that to be an issue in A Court of Hearts and Hunger. The first book wasn’t titled A Court of Sugar and SPICE for nothing, and you’ll find that heat isn’t lacking here either. If anything, I might even say it’s gone up a notch or two! We were treated with all of that Fin and Clara goodness that so many of us craved, while still learning plenty enough about Caer, Riordan and Alice that it was impossible not to be transfixed by their story unfolding right alongside it. I wish we’d gotten just the tiniest morsel more of Lir and Louisa, but the bits that we were graced with set the wheels of intrigue in motion, which I think was the intended effect— so bravo!
I’m excited and oh so eager for the next installment in this series! Will never not recommend!

What an adventure! Fin and Clara are back and steamy as ever. The slowburn with Alice, rabbit, and cat is amazing. If you liked the first book, you will love this one.

Didn’t like this one as much as the first. Fin and Clara were fine but not as interesting as before. I didn’t fully understand this new Clara reveal… do we care???? I liked Alice as a new character but kind of hated how her relationship with the Rabbit and Cat was introduced. Lotttttt of torture kink in this. I’d started to come around to them a bit (are we getting poly rep? 👀) and then it just ended lol. Would’ve liked more Hatter.

Read in Audio 3.75 out of 5 stars: The spice in this I did adore along with the plot twists. There are some gory party that you may wanna skip over. But overall love the adventure and mystery of this book
