This book was bland. It wasn't bad. It was well written. The dialogue was good. The story was well-plotted and provided a new perspective on an age-old tale. But I wasn't excited by the story. It didn't make me feel anything for any of the characters. I didn't spend my time thinking about the book and what was going to happen next. Reading this book felt more like an obligation, a task I set myself. It felt more like work than entertainment.

Perfectly entertaining, but I think I've finally had my fill of Arthuriana, so no need for me to finish the series.

DID NOT FINISH

I just can't finish this! It seems to be dragging on. Maybe I'll finish it at some other time.

I read almost 200 pages before giving up. I decided I really wasn’t interested in this tale of thugs passing themselves off as royalty. Royal assholes, IMHO.

I was particularly offended at the way they treated their horses: riding them nearly to death, urging them over ground that was uneven and unsafe, riding them until they grew lame. And after ruining the horse, they would toss the reins to some servant and turn away. Rather like testosterone-fueled young men who wreck their cars then shrug.

Enjoyed the beginning (caves! mysterious magician mentor!) and writing was good but got difficult to follow towards the end with the various Welsh etc factions fighting. Too little magic for a book about Merlin! The only time magic was mentioned was a spell to get rid of a wart??? In the whole book??? Also author was obsessed with stonehenge. Will not likely continue series.
