I read this as a teenager. it was one of the first books to show me that there was an adventure out there waiting for all of us. We just had to begin it.

This was uncomfortable to read/listen to, but I think it’s important to read it at least once.

I wanted to read this before reading Percival Everett’s book: James.

I thought Huck grew to have good judgement and see Jim as a human being (as best he could at the time) but the whole thing at the end with Tom really pissed me off.

That said, I still think it’s an important read.

It had the same magical impact as Tom Sawyer, and I didn't regret reading it again. That was a time when slavery was the norm, and the author portrayed the cruelty and absurdity of it through the adventures of two boys. It is a light-hearted tale, told with great wit and humor, but through it all, we get a clear picture of that world, far more poignant than a serious narrative.
