I love Heather Morris (and her take on historical fiction) and "Sisters Under the Rising Sun" did not disappoint.

This unique perspective on World War II is set in the Pacific as a group of brave women fight for survival. Well-written, bold, heartbreaking, and inspiring (as with most of her books), this novel left me in a heap.

Another fantastic story about a part of WW2 I knew nothing about. I am in awe of the strength of the human spirit!

Got in a blind date with a book. I have three of her other books (Tattoist of Auschwitz and Cilka's Journey especially broke me down into tears), Three sisters kinda fell flat. And this one was just too hard to get into. This author also supports Zionism. Something I didn't know until recently before getting this book.

A poignant story, but I think Heather Morris' writing style is better suited as an audiobook than a physical book for me. I didn't know about what the Australian Nurses faced so it was very interesting to read about. Definitely going to look into reading more about it in the near future!

The book tells the story of a group of women, captured by the Japanese, after the merchant ship they are on, the Vyner Brooke, is torpedoed.
The story follows their capture and internment on a remote island with little food and water. A group of the women are Australian nurses who enrolled to help with the war effort.
Working together, against all odds, many survive to tell their story. A story of human resilience, of making the most of what was available, showing compassion and care to fellow human beings even as their Japanese captors tried to wear them down.
It was good read a brief biography of some of the main characters' lives after the war.
A story which should be made into a film.
