I listened to the audio book - highly recommended. I found it gripping, moving and inspiring. All the more so as it is based on real characters and events.

I am normally a fan of Heather Morris' books, but this one did not strike the same chord with me. It was interesting to learn about the stories of the women who were incarcerated in Japan during WWII, but there didn't seem to be a clear plot line. It was more a case of describing the day to day goings on, rather than having an overall narrative. It also felt like the author exaggerated at times and tried to force too many "feel good" moments; it didn't feel authentic.
What an amazing story! I always enjoy Heather’s stories! Tough to read but so many emotions!

This was not my favorite Heather Morris book, but of course it was beautifully written and told a very unique story. I love that all the characters were actually real people. Sometimes it was just hard to tell all of the different women apart since they were all so similar in being sacrificial and advocating for themselves and doing their best to help everyone that they could. Of course the ending was beautiful, but the book was just not as compelling throughout the middle as some of her other books have been.
