This was a heart-wrenching tale of Nesta, Norah, and the other women who tried to escape capture from the Japenese Army during WW2. Following the bombing of their ship, the women fought to survive in the Malaysian jungle in the years to come. They created unbreakable bonds whilst dealing with horrific conditions, such as poor sanitation, disease, and a lack of food. The strength and courage of the women is admirable due to the suffering they endured throughout those brutal years.

This is an absolutely beautiful re-imagining of the nurses and British/Dutch/Australian/NZ civillians who lost their lives as Japanese internees during world war 2. At the beginning, I felt uncomfortable about how twee the descriptions were, it felt like it undermined the brutality of the camps. However I now understand it's the embodiment of hope that our heroines show, and that it's a true story, not imagined.
