Just finished rereading this and it may now be my favorite vampire novel. So beautifully written and so well thought out and detailed. This book is a work of love.

Every single page of this book, every single word is like poetry to my ears and eyes and being! Lestat’s backstory is so beguilingly intriguing and dramatic just how he is. It such a beautiful tale of vampire origins and life. It reads like a comfy and splendid dream you don’t want to end.

Lestat’s character is much more brilliant than Louis made him to be in the first book! He is a well formed character with realistic traits and he is driven in everything that he does. Whenever he has a vision for himself or the future he acts upon it with full commitment. So interesting and inspiring truly. There was a moment I think where he describes his general reaction to his existence and he says that he laughs at everything and anything, he love to laugh and this made me love him even more! He is just unique! “There was no scripting Lestat. You cannot script a hurricane”

I was debating whether to rate it 3 or 4 stars, the reason being that the start was mildly boring and disappointing. Now I know a lot of people might disagree with me, but I loved Louis from the first book to bits, I could truly understand him and despite what many say, I didn’t find him boring at all.
And I couldn’t really relate to Lestat at first, and frankly, he was kind of annoying.

BUT and here is the big but, about halfway through the book I started picking up a better pace and now here a spoiler warning just in case although it’s barely spoilers:
If only Marius and Thow Who Must Be Kept had appeared earlier on, I think would have been more enthralled.
This whole explanation of the lore, this unique take that I hadn’t read or seen before about how vampires came to be, it was simply fascinating to me and this is why finally i decided to give it 4 stars.

IWTV made me hate Lestat.
This book made me love him. And I’m utterly moved by Anne Rice’s ability to make fantasy so human, and to contend with existentialism, loneliness, art and beauty in such profound ways. So good.

It will never not be funny. Most people watching the show right now will think they're coming into a haunting gothic horror series.... and it's just fucking not.

Anne Rice novels are the most unserious works ever. Lestat is a fucking rockstar.

I'm almost thirty, so the closest millennial equivalent I have to give that could make someone understand JUST how unserious this series is.... is think back to like 2009-2010 ff.net fanfics where Post-New Moon Bella became a rockstar and got super famous and the Cullen had to watch her tear into them with Avril Lavigne lyrics.

I am so tired. I love this flaming disaster of a vampire.
