This was pretty great until all the sex scenes started popping out. I’m not a fan of Keeland’s sex scenes I guess, but everything else was right up my alley. Keeland has a knack for telling a story very well, and also a knack for writing some pretty great characters. I was firmly on Stella’s corner throughout her personal fight to get her business launched, and I was incredibly proud of her when she managed it. The romance made sense in that unlikely rom-com’y way and to be fair it was nice. A very interesting approach and chain of events for sure.
Funnily enough, this story patterned the previous book I read by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward so much it felt like a retelling of the same story for me. There’s a hot single dad, adorable kid, great aunt, an ex-wife that’s not as great as she should be, and then a dog at the end lol. Oh and the story centers around words written on paper— letters previously, and a diary in here. Yeah, the setup was incredibly similar, with some minor dynamics differences. However, the female characters for both books were unique enough to still keep my interest and maintain my enjoyment despite all the other glaring similarities. I was pretty gutted as well by the twists in this story, which only goes to show that I connected well to it. I had some pretty solid emotional reactions, and that counts a lot in romcom novels. However, I also felt like I knew where the story was going since I predicted some of the things that eventually did happen, so there was a bit of impatience on my part too. The excitement faded quite a bit and by the last eighth of the book I just want to be done.

It would have been 5 stars. But there was a little twist at the end that felt unnecessary and unresolved.
I loved Stella and Hudson. There wasn't any unnecessary drama, but enough to make the story move along well and for both characters to be sympathetic. The side characters were well-rounded and interesting. I would recommend this novel.

Este ușor să recunoști stilul de scriere al lui Vi Keeland - ușor de urmărit și antrenant, iar încă de la prima carte citită autoarea m-a convins să îi acord atenție pe viitor.
Keeland a avut o idee extrem de interesantă în “Invitația”, dar care, pe alocuri, nu a fost executată pe măsură sau, cel puțin, a fost eclipsată de abundența de detalii despre afacerea Stellei. Totuși, acele detalii construiesc imaginea unei femei independente, dispusă să lupte pentru ceea ce își dorește. Stella este o femeie inteligentă și pasională, iar astfel de personaje constituie întotdeauna o sursă de inspirație pentru mine. Totuși, uneori acțiunile contradictorii ale protagonistei nu reliefează genul de femeie care ne este portretizată.
Mi-a plăcut Hudson și cât de atent este construit ca personaj. Chiar și în cele mai rele momente ale lui reușește să fie un personaj cu care poți empatiza, putând ca cititor să găsești un motiv pentru care să îl placi.
M-a luat pe neașteptate direcția în care a luat-o povestea la un moment dat, dar mi-ar fi plăcut să se păstreze puțin mai mult suspansul. Pasiunea Stellei de a citi jurnalele străinilor a reprezentat un punct foarte interesant în lectură și nu am prevazut în totalitate importanța acesteia. Nu mi-a trecut nici măcar o clipă prin cap cât de departe pot ajunge lucrurile legate de acel jurnal, însă s-au pus ușor bazele dramei din final, o dramă care ne-a lăsat cu fărâme din relația celor doi. Avem de-a face cu “drame de oameni mari” care, deși copleșitoare, sunt rezolvate cu maturitate și doar timpul poate spune dacă deciziile au fost bune sau nu.
