This book had such an interesting concept but the delivery fell flat. I wished that the world been more flushed out and used more horror elements. Certain parts of the story dragged while others felt rushed.

What the fuck. I almost returned this to the library without opening because the name and cover art are so generic. I thought this book had to be boring. I’ve read so many Alice retellings. But I saw the polarizing reviews and my curiosity was piqued. Holy fucking shit.

This book started well, I was enjoying the whole set up from the beginning and going along the journey of Alice and Hatcher, but at times I felt myself drifting off, characters and events felt like they weren't filled out enough.

I was attracted to this book as it's a different and darker retelling to the Alice in Wonderland that we all know, there are some vile, bloody scenes but some moments didn't pack enough punch for me, I was left a little disappointed at these moments.

I do feel like more could've been done with a darker Alice in Wonderland retelling.

Saying that, I will go forth and read the next book to continue with their pursuit but I won't be rushing out to grab it.

Please please please look up trigger warnings before reading. I gave this book four stars solely because I love Alice and Hatcher and Alice in Wonderland in general.
